Prewriting
This is the primary stage of the writing process followed typically by drafting and revision. It consists mainly of a combination of outlining, storyboarding, diagramming, and clustering. This stage commences with audience awareness and motivation and helps the writer think of the things that are to be communicated in the paper. One of the most critical phases of this particular stage is choosing a topic and in the process, narrowing it. Different methods of selecting a topic can be applied like freewriting, researching and reading. The author also needs to strategize the organization of content by outlining and making use of prewriting periods to experiment with different means of idea expression. This stage can occur at any instance in the process of writing and is thus recursive.
Revision
This is often one of the last stages in the process of writing, and it involves making changes throughout the written draft for changed intentions. It entails seeing the draft from a critical and fresh perspective. Moreover, it consists of reconsidering one’s arguments, rethinking of the main ideas, refining of the paper’s purpose, and reorganization of the presentation (“Revising Drafts” N.p). The revision process is different from the proofreading, and the process offers a chance of critically analyzing the paper to reorganize according to the readers’ needs. One should continuously check the primary focus of the paper, recheck the thesis and purpose of the article.

In the later stages of the paper, one should examine the balance of the paper, recheck the organization, hypothesis, information, and conclusion.
Editing
In the editing process, there are three main stages involved. They are; structural editing, copy editing, and line editing. Structural editing is usually the first phase of the editing process and is also called developmental editing. One should read the documents, consult the advice from professional editors, make changes in the chapters, orders, and point of view of the paper. In this stage, one can also delete paragraphs and sentences and move them to different locations. The structural editor also checks spelling, grammar, and punctuation and makes the necessary changes. Line editing generally involves identification of structural issues, the creation of style sheet, and correction of the manuscript. Finally, copy editing does the missed editing parts and corrects minor problems and accuracy of chapters, headings, numbering, and citations.
Publishing
This is the last stage and authors need to be authentic, strategic, and innovative. The author needs to consider stages of pre-publication like preparing the research paper, picking the top journal for the manuscript, checking the peer review, making sure that one has complied to the ethics and guidelines, and utilizing editorial services to fine-tune the paper for higher chances of acceptance.
Three techniques/ strategies that are most helpful
The most critical stages that I have learned is brainstorming in which one sits down to generate ideas in a group. I found brainstorming the most beneficial. This is because it has necessary and few rules to follow and I prefer it if I am unable to generate ideas using other methods. Also, the process creates the highest amount of views, and since there is no criticism or rejection of ideas, interesting proposals can be refined. It also improves the working atmosphere when doing a brainstorming session with others (“Benefits of Brainstorming” N.p). The branching and questioning method also helps me to narrow down different topics. Also, I have understood that allowing time between drafting and revision helps me approach the essay from a fresh perspective, especially during revision.
