The current society comprises of people who take serious consideration in choosing a place of residence. Different people usually have diverse views in deciding between the major cities and small towns to settle in. Some people have it that it is more desirable to settle in a small town as it is peaceful factoring in the low concentration of the population. Contrary, other people prefer living in the major cities due to many opportunities it offers. There are various advantages and disadvantages of residing in either small or big city as discussed in this paper. This essay will, therefore, present information of what to expect in choosing to live in big cities over small towns. Currently, there are a lot of people moving and settling in the major cities as compared to small towns. The advantages the cities offers to its population facilitate this move thus making it inhabitable as compared to small towns. However, there are also disadvantages associated with living in big cities compared to small towns.
Life in big cities is interesting and exciting due to a broad range of facilities available in the towns but absent in the small towns. The overall living standards in the major cities are more superior to that of living in small towns. It is due to the many products and services, public utilities and better flow of information among the residences. Every part of the city holds many shopping joints, banks, restaurants and other essential facilities for its inhabitants.

The cultural experiences that the city offers make life more enjoyable for one to enjoy and appreciate. For instance, most big cities have museums, libraries, restaurants and theater groups where one can spend leisure time or off work days constructively. People enjoy visits to the ethnic restaurants which are in plenty in big towns compared to small towns. Also, people can hold evening parties, holiday parks, and go to pubs. These exciting places and public facilities are some of the reasons why people chose to live in the major cities.
Moreover, large cities offer one an opportunity to grow both career wise and academically. Due to many activities in the towns, they employ more people in different areas as compared to small towns. Therefore, one has a high probability of landing a good job compared to small towns. Also, various institutions are available in the major cities such as universities and colleges. One may choose to advance his or her academic qualification with much ease while holding the job requirement and roles. Therefore, the concentration of many large companies and learning institution offers one an opportunity to grow one’s career and advance his academics.
However, big cities have some disadvantages that make life in such areas undesirable. As noted, the cities are densely populated hence creating congestion among the residents. High congestion of people in places of residence results in stress, pollution, and increased crime. The diversity of individuals could be overwhelming especially to those unfamiliar with it. Although there are many transport options available, traffic is one of the major problems in cities. People always have to encounter rush-hour traffic to and from workplaces. All these drawbacks of living in big cities affect people’s health and may make one consider moving to small towns.
To sum up, one needs to analyze the situations encountered in big cities and small towns with his interests and dreams. An evaluation of one’s life regarding the living stands, cultural experiences and the thrill to grow socially, academically and career wise is some of the factors considered in both places of residence. Such analysis will enable one to make the right decision on whether to move into the major cities or small towns.
