Abstract
Nonverbal communication is a significant tool in conveying messages from one person to another. It includes the use of signals, gestures and body movements. Nonverbal cues are varied, and they are used to communicate different information. This paper analyses some of the challenges that arise in the use of nonverbal communication. They include cultural differences and lack of future reference. Highlighting these issues helps to show the loopholes that a person using nonverbal communication should avoid.
Moreover, the article discusses how the challenges posed by the use of nonverbal cues can hinder effective communication. It also evaluates a plan that can be used to overcome the challenges and the use of nonverbal cues an effective tool of communication. The plan suggests that other communication tools should complement nonverbal cues. It also emphasizes the need to study and understand the different use of gestures, signals and body movements among various cultures due to the dynamic nature of nonverbal communication.

Nonverbal Communication Challenges
Experiences in communication expose a person to various challenges and particularly in regards to nonverbal communication. Non-verbal communication includes the use of gestures and body movements to convey messages. One major challenge in the use of nonverbal communication is that it differs from one culture to another.

For instance, there are some cultures such as in China, U.S and Canada where nodding the head up and down means that one agrees. However, there are some cultures such as in Albania and Bulgaria where nodding the head up and down means that one is not in agreement. The difference in the meaning of nonverbal cues can lead to miscommunication (Egolf & Chester, 2013). Gestures and body movements do not mean the same thing to all people.
Another challenge in the use of nonverbal communication is that it cannot be used for future reference. When a person uses a gesture to communicate, it is only useful at the time when it is performed. The message conveyed cannot be repeated later and verified. It is not possible to prove that a specific gesture was used in the past to convey a certain message. If there was a miscommunication in the use of gestures, it cannot be rectified after it has happened.
However, several plans can be used to correct the challenges that exist in nonverbal communication. The difference in meaning between various cultures can be managed by studying these cultures and how they use nonverbal cues. Understanding nonverbal cues in various cultures help to avoid miscommunication. Additionally, the plan can include complementing nonverbal communication with other methods that allow future reference. These methods could include verbal communication that is recorded.
In conclusion, nonverbal cues are a significant aspect of communication. However, nonverbal communication has certain challenges that can hinder effective communication. These challenges can be addressed by having a plan that ensures that messages are conveyed effectively. It is also critical to complement the use of nonverbal cues with verbal communication.
