Observing Government in Action: The House of Representatives
The United States Congress performs the legislative mandates of the United States Government. It is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate Chambers. The Congress holds its meetings in Washington, D.C. The Senators and the Representatives are selected through direct election. Some of the Senate vacancies may be filled through gubernatorial appointment. The Congress comprises of 535 voting members, 435 form the Representatives and 100 Senators. In addition to this, there are six non-voting members of the House of Representatives.
There is an increased diversity in the House of Representatives based on the trend of gender and race. More women are serving in the House of Representatives than ever before comprising 19.3% of the congress members which is approximately 84 members (Hibbing 19). Based on racial distribution, the whites serving in the House of Representatives are higher in number than the blacks (19).
The United States House of Representatives performs the duty of passing legislation known as bills. The bills are then sent to the President for approval once the Senate has come to an agreement with them so that they can be implemented. The bills once approved play the main role in serving the will of the people. They also purpose to improve human welfare and govern their rights. The bills are also necessary for protecting the pensions of workers, governing improved access to health care and maintaining social security (Hibbing 21).

The House of Representatives serves the will of people as it seeks to pass laws that are for their good.
The Presiding Officer to the meeting of House of Representatives is the Speaker of the House who is elected by the members. Its meetings are held at the United States Capital in the south wing. Its meetings involve a predefined way and are programmed. Various debates on different issues took place, and after such debates, the members could come to an agreement based on the required provisions. The meeting was held orderly and in accordance with all the legal proceedings and was as per my expectations.
