Abstract
Samsung Electronics manufactures a wide range of devices that are used in various fields such as, healthcare, finance, and transportation sectors. Incorporating Samsung devices especially into healthcare institutions can help in improving the effectiveness of supply chains and service delivery. The healthcare sector is highly sensitive, saving time is of critical importance as it can help in saving lives.

Therefore, some procedures can be automated as computers are faster and more accurate than humans; the productivity of machines is not negatively affected by factors such as fatigue. Also, technology can be used for both good and bad. Some individuals use technology to create counterfeits which can lead to hazardous effects if such products get introduced to the healthcare sector. It is, therefore, necessary to come up with methods of ensuring that such products do not get into the supply chains associated with healthcare; this can be achieved through track and trace technology.
Keywords: Samsung, supply chain, improve.
Operational Plan for Supply Chain Management
Objectives
To establish a track and trace system: Track and trace refer to the process of following products throughout the whole supply chain through the recording of sets of data that makes it possible to verify information such amount of goods within the supply chain and their location. The method makes it is possible to trace their flow both in the forward and backward direction (Benedetti et al., 2014). The implementation of track and trace will help the hospital reduce theft of products, prevent counterfeits and improve the overall efficiency of the supply chain.
To establish service management platforms: Service management refers to a customer-based approach that is focused on providing high-quality services that delight customers and therefore improve relationships with them (Bolton et al., 2014). Service management can be achieved through automation — some of the processes that can be automated include, admission processes, documentation of the patients and patient flow. One of the expected outcomes of this technology incorporation is improved quality and consistency as computers are not subject to human errors and fatigue. Therefore, they offer the same kind of services irrespective of time and number of people served.
Strategies
The implementation of track and trace technology requires collaborating with drug manufacturers to create a computer system, come up tamper-proof packaging methods and verification techniques. Verification can be conducted with the help of barcode or QR codes. The hospital has to buy code scanners and install a system for track and trace purposes. The most significant share of costs goes to the manufacturers as they are involved with the packaging
Time frames for completion
The entire project is estimated to take three months. The first month is for contacting the suppliers and other parties within the supply chain and researching for the requirements of the new system. The second month is when the system is designed, installed and scanners purchased. The third month is for training the staff members, phasing out the old system and paying the external IT experts.
Estimated Budget
The price of the scanners and the system ranges between $4,000 to $5,000. The automation of hospital procedures requires training the staff on using the new system and purchasing it; this might cost the hospital between $25,000 to $28,000 and might take about three months to have both systems operational.
Total project cost
The total cost, therefore, amounts to $33,000.
Accountable Members
The accountable members for the implementation of the technology are members of the IT department within the organization and external IT experts involved in the creation of the new systems.
Reason for choosing Samsung’s supply chain
The reason for selecting Samsung’s supply chain is based on the aspect that the company uses its supply chain talent to expand its offering of business products some of which are used in the healthcare sector (Blanchard, 2016). The aspect aligns Samsung Electronic with hospital operations. Considering the costs for making the changes are not exceedingly expensive as there are no additional costs required in the purchase of new computers, the plans are feasible. The proposed price is worth the cost; this is because automated services are cheaper and offer more quality services to the customers than the previous service-delivery approach. If the plan is rejected, one of the ways that can be used to improve supply chain efficiency is getting the drugs directly from the producers and eliminating any parties in between.
