Overpopulation Satire The world currently faces myriads of social and environmental issues, but none of them is as important as the problem of overpopulation. As a result of the unprecedented rate at which the global population is growing, great demands are being placed on lands and the available natural resources. This, in turn, has resulted in widespread environmental problems such as population and climate change. The problem is made worse by the fact the current solutions to addressing the overpopulation problem have not been successful and their remains a huge misunderstanding of causes and impact of overpopulation. Solutions such as increased access to contraceptives, sex education and policies that restrict the number of children per family have been ineffective. Many years prior to the birth of Jesus Christ, the approximate number of people in the whole world was about 6 million people (Brym and Lie 455). By the time Jesus Christ had been born, the population had expanded to approximately 250 million people. This later increased to 750 million people by 1750 after which the population started to grow at a very fast rate (Brym and Lie 455). Today, the earth is host to more than 7 billion souls, and the number is expected to further increase in the coming years. This article seeks to table some of the possible solutions to the problem of overpopulation.
It is quite evident that with a population of more than 7 billion people, a bigger chunk of earth’s folk is just but suffering.

It is reported that the top 1% of the world’s richest people control well-over 90% of all the earth’s resources. What is the need for the rest of the world’s population to continue existing if they cannot lead a decent life? A large section of the population seems to be ignorant to the fact that the trouble we are in is likely to become bigger with more and more people starting families and bringing into the world new babies. Our suffering is also likely to increase in the coming years owing to the fact that advances in medicine are now making it possible for people to live longer. The advances being made in the field of medicine are quite important. Everyone wants to live a long healthy life. But is not selfish for one to want to live way into the 90’s at the expense of someone who is just several months old or in their adolescence? A person in their 90s has experienced life to its fullest and should willingly surrender to nature and leave the younger individuals also to enjoy life. Mercy killings for the elderly who do nothing but sit and consume important resources should be considered as a way of tackling the overpopulation problem. This ought to especially be the case in the developed countries of the world where the elderly population surpasses that of young individuals and is easting into important resources such as healthcare.
For the rest of the world, it is no brainer that population control should be a priority. One possible way of curbing the overpopulation problem in the developing countries is by prohibiting poor folks from having children. Birth control should be made compulsory for the poor folks in the developing world. Individuals should be allowed to have children only after proving that they have enough economic resources to support the children well into their adulthood. Even so, a one-child policy, as was the case in China a few years back, should be implemented in the poorest of the developing countries. Through such a policy, two birds will have been killed by a single stone. Not only will population growth be prevented, but the problem of poverty will also be gradually eradicated. A fully fledged nuclear war will also go a great way in addressing the global overpopulation problem. Nearly every other country that makes up the G20 has nuclear weapons. If each of these countries starts dropping nuclear bombs in the major cities of their enemies, the global population will, in the end, be slashed by more than a half. The long-term effect that nuclear bombs have on the well-being of both plant and animal life means that an additional portion of the world’s population will eventually die as a result of the indirect impact of the nuclear warfare.
In conclusion, population boom that has been experienced over the past three centuries has resulted to overpopulation. The total number of people in the world is currently more than what the earth can handle going into the future. Solutions such as increased access to contraceptives, sex education and policies that restrict the number of children per family have been ineffective. This essay proposes early termination of the lives of the unproductive elderly individuals, prohibiting poor folks from having children and a protected nuclear war as some of the solutions that will help permanently address the overpopulation problem.
