Poverty is a problem in force in many parts of Peru, to date among other things, the State has not achieved with efficient policies to combat this flag that follows us for decades and today we only have to live the consequences.

Decrease in expenses in social programs

“In 2016, 2.8% of GDP was allocated to social protection and forecast, while in 2018 it was reduced to 2.7%. Regarding education, there is currently an equivalent to 4.3% of GDP, which places us still far from the minimum goal of 6% of GDP established in the National Agreement. On the other hand, child anemia increased from 43.6% in 2016 to 46.6% in the first quarter of 2018, affecting almost half of children under three years old."

Armando Mendoza, Oxfam researcher in Peru and author of the study indicates that “our country is still far from the standards of developed countries in social protection and forecast. Our levels of health and education spending as a percentage of GDP are below not only the average of OECD countries, but are even below the Latin American average ”

Monetary problem

The head of the INEI, José García Zanabria, stressed that monetary poverty decreased by 1.2 percentage points (313,000 people) between 2017 and 2018. Reported that the 20th.5% of the country’s population, which is equivalent to 6 million 593,000 people, were in poverty at the end of 2018, that is, they belonged to homes whose per capita expense was lower than the value of the poverty line, which is theMonetary equivalent of a basic basket of consumption of goods and services.

Less education, more poverty

Another key factor that leaves us poverty is education, as we know if the educational level comes high, the level of poverty will be lower, that is one of the differences with people of medium and high economic level, with poor people,Taking into account not only the economy, but also the emotional stability of poor people living in our country.

“In 2017, a poor person managed to study on average until the first year of secondary education, since he manages to accumulate 7.1 years of study, while a non -poor person came to study on average until fourth year of high school (10.2 years of study) ”, explains the INEI report.

Alternatives

One of the alternatives to reduce poverty, would be to start giving a good educational quality in schools both in the urban area to continue growing and in a rural area to get out of that crisis, that would be the basis to stop thinking that poverty is symbolto surrender.

Remove inequality in employment, today we think that men are only made to work and women for the home, something that is not so, the labor issue must be equal with equal salaries and benefits that help in the home economyand that everything is formal.

We can also see the improvement of access to basic services, to reduce poverty, not only the economic sector is needed, but also the health and social welfare sector, where the drinking water service, basic sanitation and decent housing should be increased, andthat can avoid diseases that would improve the psychological profile and physical well -being of people.

That the State worries more about the people who live in extreme poverty, who understand their problems that use strategies with more social programs and support to reduce that economic level so low and worrying that we have in the country.
