Pressures on international students to get high GPA
The school is one tough place for survival. Students pass through a lot of stress and pressure for them to perform. Some struggle to get grades that would enable them to graduate while others want to get good GPA for them to join right universities. The rate at which students suffer psychologically and physically due to grades and good GPA is alarming. Academic pressure is caused by many reasons. Among them, there is worry over good grades, parental pressure, competition, severe class loads, and the need for perfection. The results may have paramount effects. Students may result in exam cheating, inability to sleep, depression and social phobia and anxiety. This paper analyses the causes and effects of pressure for international students to get high GPA.
Most students overwork themselves by reading for long hours without sleep. Such effort causes insomnia, which originates from the inability to sleep. A normal human being should sleep at most 8 hours and at least 5 hours. Students who suffer from insomnia reduce their ability to concentrate in class, which instead of increasing their GPA lowers it further. Parental pressures also cause worry over good GPA. Some parents want their children to live dreams that they never achieved. They want their children to be doctors and pilots that they once wanted to be. The expectations make them lay a lot of pressure on their children to perform.

Children due to this, pressurize themselves for the sake of pleasing their beloved parents. The school setup also causes pressure in students (Martin, Andy, 56). Some schools have policies that when an international student does not perform well, they should be deported back to their home countries. Therefore international students get a lot of pressure to meet the said standards of the school. Some schools also make their students compete. Competition is good to some extent, but on the other hand increases, pressure as students try to outdo each other for good grades and nice GPAs. Tutors give a lot of workloads to students and promise punishment to students if they do not complete the assignments on time causing further pressure on the students. Some parents and tutors also want perfection, and this increases, even more, pressures.
Pressure for good GPA affects international students in many ways. As seen, it is a primary cause of inability to sleep, which poses the health danger to the students (Burke, Mary A and Tim Roger Sass, 78). It increases anxiety in students, which may result in health problems like stomach ulcers and heart diseases. Academic pressure to foreign students may cause them to school dropout. International students face many challenges among them being the lack of sufficient funds to support their studies and with more academic pressure, and this result to school dropout. The pressure also leads to examination cheating through activities such as plagiarism. Students want to improve their grades and maintain a GPA of 4 at all costs. Therefore, the easiest way is to cheat in examinations. It creates a morally in upright society that is full of corruption.
Conclusively academic grades and GPA should not be the only driving forces for international students. Instead, students are supposed to perform basing on their abilities. Parents should understand their children to allow them to live their dreams and not their parents’ dreams. Awareness should be made to students should be prepared to make them understand that physical health is important than academics and that sleep is important.
