Abstract
Contrary to popular belief that social media is a revolutionary happening that has opened up the world and made it easy for people to reach out to each other and interact easily, I still believe that there is more to life than spending tons of hours on the social platforms (Eliot, 2016). The current generation has developed this habit of spending all their time on social media rather than spending the time and energy in building the developing themselves financially. Social media has made it easy for people to interact globally and therefore even people kilometers away from each other can now discuss and socialize. Socialization is important in that it helps in sharing good ideas and thus improves the rate of evolution. The rate at which the globe is becoming a global village is courtesy of the social media. However, Life is not all about socializing and interaction with people from different nations as well as the races.
Introduction
I cannot stand social media. It is exhausting and covered in façade. I would rather lie in bed or watch my favorite television show during my free time. Today I went through my Instagram page and the false lives displayed there were annoying. So I decided to return to my social media-deprived life. Many people view social media as a social evolution but I have a contrary opinion. Life is about many other things and lots of hours spent on social media could be more useful in another area rather than socializing.

This paper will discuss how the habit has bred a generation of lazy people who stay up all night trying to catch up with their friends instead of channeling that energy to work towards building the nation.
Apart from spreading false information which could potentially lead to unnecessary panic attacks in the community, it is through social media that the privacy of individuals and secrets of a nation are exposed. The repercussions that have on the security cannot be underestimated. Terrorists run most of their operations through social media, (Usmani, 2015) starting from the recruitment process all the way to execution of their plans.
Social media is the main contributor to stress and unsuccessful offline relationship because we are all looking to replicate what we see on social media in our relationships. Also, research shows that over 30% of students who spend time on social media, during their homework time have lower grades compared to those that stay away from the platforms. Therefore social media has a detrimental effect on the academic development of students. Social media paralyzes all sectors of the economy because of the adverse effects it has on its users.
