Professional ethics within student teaching

In this essay I will be addressing the issues that we have worked on in the course of this subject, in this I will put everything learned. The main objective of this essay is to be able to raise with my own words the themes of each unit. 

Is ethics necessary?

Ethics is very important because it refers to human behavior and customs, that is, ethics is about people’s behavior.

Ethics teaches us to behave in society, it also teaches us values, which will help us be better.

According to the reading of the Giges ring, ethics is necessary for me since this is personal, and Plato intended to make us reflect on whether man is fair by his nature or by necessity imposed. It is important that we put to think like people, what would we do with this ring?, We would use it to do good things, such as catching thieves and criminals to make a more just society or we would use it for our benefit or for our convenience.

Many people if they had the ring would work for their convenience and do what they would like, since their works would not be relieved.

The human being by his nature if he has the opportunity to do something wrong, because he is a selfish being, and many people would do bad things with a good purpose

It is important to note that Plato concluded that in possession of the ring, very few people would behave fairly, since they would work without fear of being discovered and they would act selfishly for their own benefit.

Fundamental ethical theory

In this unit we were addressing issues of utmost importance, issues that can help us be a better person if we take it into account and put it into practice.

Among the issues discussed in this unit are: morals and ethics. The first weeks of class were addressing these issues, these were treated very cautiously since these are very important.

Basic distinctions: moral and ethical

  • Ethics:

Ethics is responsible for molding the human being, it is what studies the morals, behavior and obligations of man before his fellow men.

The purpose of studying morals, and it has to do with human actions in social life, therefore, ethics is related to all of us that humans now express themselves as products, with whom, already, alreadythat ethics has approaches with others.

My perception is that the ethical part has to be somewhat invariable, since it is more general, it goes to the philosophical part where the good and bad is. These are general rules, this molds what moral is and raises rules and models to follow. Ethics goes more personal, it goes to consciousness.

According to my point of view, this is a topic that you have to pay close attention, because ethics is something fundamental that we must fulfill, and as a human being this is something fundamental.

  • The moral:

Morality is a set of norms in which it seeks to determine whether a person throughout his life managed to be good. Moral also guides good and/or correct or incorrect.

Moral: It is the one that directs or guides the behavior of groups of people in society, that is, it is the one that governs our behavior.

My point of view about moral.

Relationship between ethical and moral

A behavior is considered moral when adjusted to the norms or a moral code. On the other hand, ethics gives explanations of moral norms, and its origin is based on a philosophical and religious system.

Ethics and morals are a complement to each other because morality will depend on the ethics that you have acquired in your childhood, such as the values that your parents have instilled in you.

Finally you can say that ethics and morals go hand in hand that both regulate behavior.

Moral language

It can be said that moral language is the union of propositions in which other people are judged and we also judge ourselves.

The language used in statements that are moral or also in moral judgments, are also called moral discourse, and this is included in what is the prescriptive or imperative function of language.

Moral language has characteristic, and this is studied by metaetics and also moral language.

According to prescriptivism there are 3 primary manifestations of moral language that are: imperative, norms and valuations.

Kantian formalism

Kantian formalism is that the moral law is the one with the greatest value, or its value because it has a form or characteristic of law, its essence lies strictly in its nature of law.

For Kant: a material moral law is a contradiction, since because it will cease to be universal and, consequently, law.

Kant’s main objective is to conceive the principles of ethics according to rational techniques. Instead of assuming a definite statement of good, and using it as a root to decree what we know how to do, use an enunciation of ethical principles to determine what it is to have a good will.

Consequentialism and utilitarianism

Consequentialism and utilitarianism are issues that people confuse a lot, since they believe it is the same. Consequentialist theory is one that can identify certain valuable states, the good of an action or other moral judgments is also determined. However, utilitarianism is very similar to consequentialism, since it is responsible for identifying the best state of the possible things in which the greatest possible happiness occurs.

Consequentialism: This considers that the object of ethics is to achieve the best consequences, that is, the best possible outcome. It should be noted that utilitarianism in a type of consequentialism, since this is famous and its end is to look for the greatest number of happiness

Utilitarianism: this states that human actions have to be for a common good, that is, a good for all. Although the human being is selfish and seeks individualism, utilitarian believe that the criteria of morality is to be in the common good.

Ethics of virtue

In ancient times some of the philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle analyzed the specific virtues. The ethics of virtue focuses on moral character. He maintains that ethics has to do with the type of people we are, and not so much with what we do.

The main purpose of the ethics of virtue is to form character, since this is of the utmost importance, taking into account that the character is the attitude we take about the situation that arises.

It is important to know the behavior to be able to perform judgments, for example, what do I think?, What does the person of others think?

The approach to the ethics of virtue in moral philosophy argues that, when deciding how to live, we should not take into account that the world would make a better place, or what norms we must obey, but rather what kind of moral agentswe want to be.

Ethics and psychology

Moral and ethical development of care.

Moral development:

Moral development is impossible without psychological development and not that if we have psychological development we must have moral development, that is to say that moral development will depend on psychological development.

Kohlberg states that there are three levels of moral development, each of which has two stages. Starting from psychological development, morality grow, and psychological development can be created for better or worse.

The theory of moral development elaborated by Kohlberg wants to overcome or exceed the schematism and lack of precision of the Piaget.

Ethics of care:

The central concept of care ethics is that of commitment, and its beginning is in the understanding of the world as a network of links in which we feel submerged and where a recognition of responsibility for others arises.

Gilligan began the debate on whether the ethics of care is really a female ethic, taking into account that care is characterized by the feeling of being part of a union of relations with tenderness and commitment to do what corresponds to which it is not necessarydestroy the self.

In short, women in terms of care ethics is mostly moral than that of a man.

Is there a moral "maturity"? Are there differences between the moral reasoning of men and women?

Rest (1978) made a research of inequality in moral reasoning according to the participant’s age. He found that moral reasoning is changing depending on the age of the individual to focus on the beginning of adulthood.

Gilligan (1977) has argued that moral development is changing differently in men and women, due to inequalities in the way each group is socialized and due to different social judgments for each group. According to Gilligan, women tend to be more careful for others.

Walker (1984) also made a verification of studies comparing differences according to the sex of the participant. Its conclusion is that in general there are no significant inequalities between men and women in what is moral development.

Social Psychology: Difficulties in achieving autonomy

Autonomy is the power to do things to act according to their criteria, that is, do what you think, regardless of the opinion of others.

Autonomy is not to change your opinion or perception because the group thinks differently, that is, autonomy tries to develop a behavior that although many people see it as an individualist is not so.

Ethics and citizenship

Are our private life and our public life governed by different regulatory criteria?

This question is usually a starting point among the people involved in education, because there is a percentage that states that the same private behavior can not be imposed regarding public work, since freedom and autonomy can be lost, others, by theirpart, defend equality between what is privately and publicly.

  • Corruption:

Corruption is the misuse of state funds or abuse of power. This is a complicated social, political and economic phenomenon that affects all countries of the world, since in all countries you see what corruption.

According to international transparency (2017) people and corruption, of the forms that corruption adopts are favoritism and nepotism that are defined as the abuse of power to favor friends, supporters and family. This form of corruption is related to the exchange of favors that is a custom rooted in some societies, including ours, which includes practices of the population or part of it, does not consider corruption.

Individualism and solidarity

Individualism

Individualism can be defined as the preference of thinking and acting according to the subject’s own criteria. Individualism lies in independent thought and action, without recognizing, or thinking about other people.

If a person wants to consider himself totally individual, he must do everything alone, for example, make the clothes that are going to put on, make the foods to be consumed, make the shoes with what he will wear, etc. A person is never completely individualistic, so that this person will only have to depend on himself.

There are societies and countries that create individualistic, for example in Sweden there is an epidemic of solitude, where one in two Swedes lives alone and no family or friend claims the body to bury it or to cry, they can spend days, weeks, months, years, years, years, years, years.

The Swedish theory of love says:

Solidarity

Solidarity is the acceptance or casual support to a cause or interest of others, for example to give support or acceptance to another person in a difficult situation.

Solidarity is a value par excellence that is characterized by the reciprocal relationship that exists between people, which undoubted.

The solidarity is always willing to help and do something for others, that is, it does not doubt in collaborating and supporting all those people who are in a disadvantaged position. It is important to promote solidarity from childhood since this can be seen as the basis for promoting other values.

Democratic political education and culture

Education

Education is a complex process in the life of the human being, since it occurs first within the family and then in the different stages of school life that the human being lives.

Education is the one that facilitates obtaining learning or knowledge, skills, values and habits in a human group.

Education is the basis for the development of society, it perites us to forge in values to be a person of good, allows us to insert ourselves into society and helps us to be prepared to face ourselves in life.

As human beings we never let them learn, because every day we learn new things

Political and democratic culture

The democratic political culture is based on the notion of citizenship a group of rational, free and equal individuals before the law that make up the subject par excellence of the public thing and the legitimation of power, since the first and last source of power isThe will of the people, that is, of citizenship. It is a notion that in its deepest sense condenses the features and factors that shape a democratic political culture.

The issue of political culture is of great importance for current political science, because from the knowledge of the value, convictions and customs of citizens in a given society that can be discerned, capture the opportunity to build and guarantee solidity andpermanence of the democratic system.

The political culture of a nation is the particular distribution of psychological guidance patterns towards a specific set of social objects of political proper among the members of that nation.

Ethics of the teaching profession

What are the purposes of education?

The purposes of education are to provide men and women with skills that allow them to develop as a person and assure them a job training that allows themin contact with the cultural and moral achievements of humanity and especially with society.

What values and virtues characterize a good teacher?

Teachers must be the professionals who work the most soft skills, especially those related to communication and assertiveness.

A good teacher should be:

  • Responsible, flexive, observer, mediator, cooperative, inspiring, empathetic, charismatic

Also good teachers:

  • They seek to overcome barriers and also themselves and acquire new learning tools.
  • They always have a positive attitude, love their work and seek to face obstacles.
  • They know how to listen to their students and adapt to their needs, they do not judge their students but rather give support.
  • Its objectives are clear and what they will do.
  • Do not fear change, because they want to take challenges and achieve what they propose.
  • They trust their students and give him confidence.

 

The goals of education and the ethos of the teacher

Professional ethics is not only a deontology (part of ethics whose objective is to study the duties that affect a teaching profession) but rather a set of norms so that the behavior of the person who exercises such work can be governed.

In the educational field, to fulfill that commitment he and the teacher must be aware of their practical, intellective and moral holdings, as well as their role, that is, they must develop them with firmness and dedication to put it into practices with their students.

According to what was investigated I can appreciate that ethos can be understood as the set or grouping of the values that guide the argument of a speech.

The ethos in the teacher is established by the participle mode of appreciating pedagogy within a classification of values that are sustained and therefore, is an essential part of its principles of action. Of that ethos are part 2 things of utmost importance, something primary: suitability and aptitude.

The teacher’s ethos goes beyond the classroom and this involves their work spheres, both publicly and privately.

To conclude, it should be noted that these issues that I have developed in this essay are of great importance, I learned the importance of ethics and morals, since this is essential in the life of the individual.

Ethics and morals are a complement to each other because morality will depend on the ethics that you have acquired in your childhood, such as the values that your parents have instilled in you.
