As an employee in a bank and specifically in the human resource department, my work will include conducting recruitment and selection operations for job applicants. In my position, I will collaborate with other team members to ensure that we select competent employees. To ensure that I am a better leader in future, I will conduct all the procedures involved in the operations professionally (Redmond & Bower, 2015). For instance, I will observe from other experienced employees on the approach to use to ensure that I am independent and therefore neutral throughout the process. Additionally, I will exercise effective communication as well as team working spirit when interacting with the fellow employees. This will help me become professional.
To refine my competencies in leadership, I will identify a mentor in the department who I will form a good professional relationship with. I will consult him or her for advice and clarifications. I will emulate their behavior and conduct as far as execution of work is concerned (Schein, 2010). I will heed their advice and when they recommend any directions, I will adhere to the latter. This will enable me to develop skills which are relevant to my profession. These will enable me to identify best approaches to develop a positive organizational culture.
Additionally, since my mentor will probably be an experienced person in the sector, I will observe and learn how he or she handles challenges.
