Trump’s Wall is a Waste of Time and Money
Introduction
The article analyzed in this essay is entitled “Trump’s wall is a waste of time and money” written by Saddiki. The essay criticizes the Trump’s step to construct a wall on the US-Mexican border to curb the immigration problem. The author seems to be opposing the Trump’s project to build the wall. For instance, the author says “Why Trump make Mexico pay for it?” (Saddiki 2017). This tries to show that Trump himself is not prepared to cater for the bills but involve Mexico in the project which is not there’s. The article was also printed in the New York Times.
The article was produced when the Trump’s campaigns were vibrant. The intended audience for the article was the US citizens and the Congress to make the decision when the matter was to be tabled for the implementation by the Trump’s administration. The article explains the reasons for the building of the wall and why the project. The author argues that the wall is set to end the illegal immigration across the border.
Thesis
The article “Trump’s wall is a waste of time and money” uses the criticism to show that the Trump’s project to build the US-Mexican wall was mere wastage of time and money. The author provides solid reasons why the project is a nightmare.
Tools
The article uses comparison, imagery, and criticism as the tools. The comparison or the contrast is used when the author compares the Bush’s project of building the double layer wall and the Trumps high technology wall.

The author says “Trump should know that Bush tried to build double layer fence before” (Saddiki 2017). This clause tries to prove that an earlier project had been tried, but it wasn’t implemented. Hence, the Trump’s project which is more advanced is not easy to be passed by the Congress.
The author uses imagery by terming the Trump’s project a nightmare. A nightmare is just a vision in mind but not actual. The author says “He can build it, but it’s a nightmare” (Saddiki 2017). This shows that the project is not practical as Trump thought because of the challenges in the construction process.
The author criticises the project by giving more challenges than the benefits of the wall. The author gives an alternative for the project. This shows that the project is not viable and instead the government should look for other ways to settle the problem of immigration.
Body
The author says that the Congress is facing the financial challenges and the debt limit should not be increased by investing in projects without usefulness. The article mentions that the funding on the wall will be an automatic straining of the taxpayer’s pocket. Again the Mexican president said that he wouldn’t assist financially in the building of the wall. The information leaked from the Trump’s call with the Mexican president.
The author says that Trump said that the wall is not a must to run for the whole length of 2100 miles. The wall can exclude some portions of the geographically unfit areas. This would create gaps in the geographically blocked areas. This can serve as the entry points for the immigrants hence the problem not solved and yet huge amounts of cash spent on the project.
Ethos, Pathos, Logos
The author employs the use of the tone to show the credibility of the article. The article uses ethos like in the text “What’s more, why does he involve Mexico to pay for it?” This is a tone which tries to emphasize that Trump is not prepared to pay for the project. For instance, the author says the information leaked from the Trump’s call with the Mexican president. The author suggests that Trump just used the promise to win the presidency during his campaigns.
Again he wanted to build the wall and make Mexico eat the costs of construction, and yet it not benefiting the Mexicans. The Mexican government cannot pay for the projects which are not beneficial because the wall will be constructed in favor of US. The river flooded areas and the treaty commitments will make the wall to be built in the US part, and it is awkward if the Mexican government pumps money into the project (Weissbrodt 2017).
Again, the author uses word choice as it creates an emotional appeal to the situation. For instance, the author says “Trump should content with the cost of construction and the federal consequences.” The pathos shows that the author is emotional regarding the project implementation due to cost and the time issues. The author tries to give more reasons as to why the project is not viable. For example, he explains the federal regulation and the conservation policies are against the project. The defenders of wildlife are against the wall. The federal regulations will, therefore, delay the project or it bars its construction. Also, the cost can be increased due to the federal regulations on the conservation issues. The region has more than 18 species which are endangered. About 39 federally endangered species are found along the border the Arizona border according to the information given by the wildlife department (Weissbrodt 2017).
The author gives logical ideas to conclude the project is not viable. He starts with the principal reasons and finally gives other minor reasons. The author thus presents the ideas logically.
Conclusion
The author strong reasons as to why the project is total wastage of time and money. He terms the project as a nightmare because of the large amounts of cash planned to be used, and the wall is not useful. The wall is set to use $21 billion during its construction process. The author says that the immigrants will look for other ways to sneak into the US. In conclusion, the project is total wastage of time and money.
