Abstract
A Safety Design Review Process starts with a compliance evaluation followed by hazard assessment and risk assessments are done if needed. It is vital to evaluate a design against all applicable government regulations and industry standards during its design process. The evaluation may be simple and in compliance with the necessary regulations, construction can proceed. A safety management system is a designed procedure or process for conducting a particular activity or project in the workplace. The goal of a safety management system is to ensure that when a task is being conducted in the workplace, all precaution is taken to help in reducing the probability of having an incidence that could leave people hurt or worse. The Safety Design Review Process, Systems Safety, and Prevention by Design are concepts that interrelate with the safety management systems approach since they all seek to enhance workplace safety through proactive measures that limit risks and hazards.

Workplace safety is paramount as it ensures that employees, as well as other assets of the organization, are not damaged, injured or destroyed. The safety design review process ensures that organizations develop proper designs that manage risks on paper before implementing the project.

An organization needs to implement a safety management system to help in curbing risks and hazards that could arise in an organization. This paper aims to describe the safety design review process. It will also discuss the role and importance of safety in a safety management system.
A Safety Design Review Process starts with a compliance evaluation followed by hazard assessment and risk assessments are done if needed. It is vital to evaluate a design against all applicable government regulations and industry standards during its design process. The evaluation may be simple and in compliance with the necessary regulations, construction can proceed. On the other hand, complex projects may need to verify compliance at various stages of its construction. The next process is hazard assessment where potential hazards, basic operator tasks, and actual or probable control measures are identified. The hazard assessment is kept out of date when additional knowledge and information regarding the process and equipment is learned or acquired. The final step is the carrying out the risk assessments which are done at any stage or review process to help in establishing a risk score for the hazard or set of hazards. It is possible to use the risk score in setting priorities meant to address and control the hazards or set of hazards. The risk assessment process can be used together with the risk score to help in determining the lowermost conceivable level of acceptable risk (Manuele, 2008).

The safety design review process helps in ensuring that all hazards are prevented in the workplace by making sure that the designs made are suitable so that they do not cause harm. It is a proactive system that expects hazards and tries to avoid them by devising proper designs for equipment or projects. The system design review process is part of the safety management system since it helps in preventing workplace hazards. Safety systems are also implemented to ensure that employees, as well as other assets, are safeguarded from risks. Prevention by Design is a concept that seeks to help businesses prevent and control illnesses, injuries or even fatalities by reducing risks and hazards. These concepts interrelate with safety management systems since they are all implemented to ensure that workplace safety is enhanced (Manuele, 2008).
