The Advantage and Disadvantages of Credit Cards
Draft copy
Credit cards offer convenience to users in that they don’t need to carry significant amounts of money from place to place so as to purchase something. Carrying large sums of money might be dangerous as one may be susceptible to a mugging by thugs. Credit cards ensure that you can buy whatever you want by just swiping your card. They also offer instant cash when you don’t have the necessary money to buy a particular item that you urgently need or pay for vital services in case of emergencies. You don’t need to have money in your card to purchase. As the credit card provider usually issues you a kind of soft loan that you later refund.
Credit cards allow online purchase and sales. Online transactions are liked by many due to the convenience they offer. You can buy almost anything you require at the comfort of your home or while traveling. Credit cards help you to purchase any product that you intend to buy over the internet, something that cash is no capable of doing.
The major disadvantage of credit cards is that they attract high-interest rates. Many fines are imposed by credit card providers for the failure to make payments on time. These fines and debts can accumulate over time leading to massive debts that cannot be easily paid from one’s income. Many people have as a result been rendered bankrupt and their plans in life destroyed.

The primary reason for the use of credit cards is the convenience that they offer. Credit cards eliminate the need to carry huge sums of money from place to place so as to make any purchases. The dangers that come with handling vast amounts of money are countless therefore these cards have come as a huge relief to many shoppers who only knew cash as the only mode of payment (Birukova, 2016). Credit cards also offer instant cash to users who are short of cash to buy the product they require or pay for essential services in case of an emergency such as an accident. What is implied here is that the card does not have to be loaded with money for one to effect a transaction.
Credit cards also allow online purchases and sales. We all know how online sales have gained popularity in recent years; they allow one to buy or sell any commodity at the comfort of their house while traveling or when far from home. Credit cards enable all this to happen by acting as the primary form of payment in these transactions (Livingston, 2015).
Even though credit cards have many advantages that make them easily preferable, they do no lack a few shortfalls. The major disadvantage of credit cards is that they attract high-interest rates; of all the loans and mortgages, they earn the highest rates. Credit card providers impose many heavy fines for delayed payments. These fines and debts can accumulate over time leading rendering them hard to pay and finally leading to bankruptcy (Holland, 2016).
Explanation
I added the phrase “the primary reason for the use of credit cards” in the first paragraph to signify the start of advantages and to show that I have concluded my introduction. I also eliminated “susceptible to thugs” and introduced a general point of view as mugging is not the only peril that results from the handling of vast sums of money. I also made a few changes in sentence formats to make them more grammatically correct. In the second paragraph, I added the conjunction also after credit cards so as to make a smooth transition from the first to the second paragraph. A few changes were also made in the sentences to make them more appealing as well as grammatically correct. Finally, in the third paragraph, I added the sentence, “Even though credit cards have many advantages that make them easily preferable, they do no lack a few shortfalls.” to signify that I had finished outlining the pros and was now on the disadvantages. I also deleted “and their plans in life destroyed.” as it had no significance in the sentence. Moreover, the revised copy contains proper in-text citations for the sources used in this research paper.
