Should the refugee crisis be securitized?
For a while now, the refugee crisis has been a menace to a number of countries. This has been attributed to the fact that people are fleeing their country of origin as a result of being persecuted because of their belief, color, ethnicity, etc. and their lives face threats because of war, ethnic strife and any other form of conflict. Due to these concerns, the question that remains is whether the refugee crisis should be securitized. This is to mean that, the problem will be given priority and termed as a threatening factor to security. Through this, extraordinary countermeasures will be put in place to deal with the threat (refugee crisis). To top it all up, the people will be convinced to the extreme that the “rule-breaking behavior” is the way to go. Therefore, in a layman’s language, migration will then be seen as a security issue in which no form of democratic procedures will need to be followed. But is the world ready for this? If it is not, then measures need to be put in place for the masses to be made ready as the problem is a thorn that needs to be rooted out with any available means (Bourbeau, 18).
The instilment of securitization into the refugee crisis will go a long way into fixing the problem by going to the real factors that influence migration in the first place. Through this, the factors will be able to be dealt with, with the urgency and force that is needed for substantial success to be achieved.

Wait! Should the refugee crisis be securitized paper is just an example!

Also, this will make people and even the government open their eyes and as such will stop categorizing the refugee crisis as one of the many humanitarian problems but rather an extinction event if not well managed with swiftness.
In conclusion, “the refugee crisis is not something to joke with and without stringent measures in place such as securitization, the problem may never end.”
