My Teaching Philosophy
Unlike most careers, teaching is one of the careers that require undivided attention. This is because it involves shaping the lives and future of young people as they prepare to live a fulfilled life. In this case, it calls for every teacher to be keen in their role in the classroom both in teaching the curriculum and setting a role model for the students. ‘He who says he can, and he who says he can’t both are right’. This saying has formed a backbone for my career as I believe I should do my best for the students as their future lies squarely in my hands. In this case, as a teacher, I have developed a personal philosophy of education that guides me in fulfilling my perfect role in the classroom as I understand that the future of the children in both their academic excellence and positive behavior lies in my hands.
To begin with, my philosophy denotes the need for freedom of expression from my students. Students, especially, both in their young and adolescents stages exhibit different forms of creativity especially in what they are good at. Through this freedom, I will be able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of my students and guide them accordingly in maximizing on their strengths and addressing the weaknesses. In addition, through expression, students exhibit different talents that can be nurtured into careers. For instance, students may have talents in various fields such as sports and music.
Behaviors are nurtured in children while they are young.

Wait! Teacher Philosophy paper is just an example!

Being a teacher and spending a considerable part of the students’ lives together in the classroom and at school, one plays a very important role in nurturing the individual student’s behavior. My philosophy advocates for reinforcement of positive behaviors from children while giving negative punishment for the undesired behaviors from the students. For example, positive behaviors such as good results from a student will be met with positive words such as “well done” and “congratulations” from the teacher. In addition, I will ask students to clap and congratulate a student who shows exemplary behavior. In this case, the students will be encouraged to uphold positive behaviors at all times. Further, negative punishment will include the removal of the stimuli or conditions that reinforce the poor behavior. For instance, if the students opt to get involved in activities such as poker games during a physical exercise class, as a teacher I will be forced to punish them by replacing the physical exercise session with a history class. This will encourage the students to behave better when the physical exercise session is restored as they know the consequences of bad unwanted behavior during the session.
Every student in the classroom is unique. Some students are fast in understanding the content taught in the classroom while others are slow. As a teacher, however, it is my duty to ensure that all the students are at par with the syllabus in class. In this case, according to my philosophy, I will ensure that I understand the capabilities of each student. I will create time for each of the student to guide them in their work. This can be through giving exercises in class and going around the classroom as you mark and check the progress of each of the students. Further, I will encourage discussion groups among the students. Discussion groups by the students facilitate learning from peers which is effective in reinforcing the understanding of the content taught in the classroom by the teacher.
As a prospective teacher, I believe that my teaching philosophy will serve as a guide to my career as a teacher and a role model for the students. Further, across the years, and with additional experience in the field, my philosophy will greatly be influenced by the positive experiences I will gain from the teaching career.
