The concept of communication and its components

When talking about communication we refer to a dynamic process that exists between two or more people in order to express our views, emotions, feelings and above all to provide information with a significant contribution to society.

The communicative process is the effective transmission of information through the communication channel from an issuer to a receiver. It is an indispensable element in our daily lives, since being social beings we have the need to interact with the community.

The communication is carried out according to a given circuit, in which the same elements almost always intervene, depending on the way it occurs and the type of communication implemented.

Comunication elements

Transmitter

The word emitter derives from the Latin emissor whose meaning is the one that sends out, the verb mittere that means sending and the suffix -as a thing that refers to the thing or person who executes an action.

He is responsible for coding the system, adapting it and linking it with the communicative intention he wants to share. This is the starting point of the circuit, then, it is the one that starts the message.

Receiver

It derives from the Latin verb recipes composed of the prefix re -indicates repetition, the verb capere that means capturing and the suffix -oro -sor that refers to the thing or person who executes an action (Pérez & Merino, 2016).

He uses an inverse and proportional role of the issuer because, he is responsible for decoding, organizing and understanding the information sent by the issuer.

It is the content of the information sent either an instruction, conference, warning, a story of something happened or a personal opinion. It is all that the issuer wants to convey and that has communicative intention.

Channel

It is the space where the message or information is transmitted and that as a consequence establishes a connection between the issuer and the receiver.

Code

It is called code to language or encryption in which the issuer’s message is transmitted to receiver and that is essential for the communicative process to be carried out effectively. The parties involved in communication must handle the same code or else the message will remain indecipherable (Raffino, 2019).

Context

Are the conditions, the place or the environment in which the communication is carried out and that describes all the reality that is perceived thanks to the message. It can be:

Physical

The place, the environmental conditions, the time, the distance between the parties.

Social

Subject to the nature of the relationship between the parties, family, friendships, labor, partners, strangers.

Historical

They are the background of the interlocutors, which influence the understanding between them.

Psychological

They are moods, the feelings of the parties at the time the interaction is carried out.

Cultural

They are the beliefs, values, customs and language of the interlocutors that influence communication.

Noise

It is any unwanted sign that interferes with the message that you want to transmit and therefore, it endangers communication.

Explicit message

It shows a clear and totally explained message, which does not hide anything between the lines, it is a direct message that does not need too much explanation, precisely communicating its content and intention.

Implicit message

It is a message that hides another meaning, does not clearly communicate what you want to convey since you need a greater analysis to understand or find a real interpretation.

conclusion

Communication is essential to forge human relationships, enrich our knowledge, express our ideas, opinions and enhance our skills. In short, for the communication to be effective, the receiver has to understand the issuer’s message. Our main objective in communication is to influence others, cause a positive impact on society and ourselves .
