Associated Press. “Court Ruling on Offensive Trademarks Boosts Washington’s ‘Redskins’ Stand.” The Guardian, Guardian News and Media, 19 June 2017, www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/jun/19/washington-redskins-name-supreme-court-ruling-nfl.
The Associated Press (1) reports a development in the Supreme Court case regarding the banning of offensive trademarks. The court ruled in favor of the Slants; a musical band that was contesting the government’s decision to refuse their application for a trademark patent. The data in this piece is accurate and informative. The Associated Press (1) shows the link between the Slants and the Washington Redskins and describes how the ruling affects both parties. The piece will help me prove the inaccuracy of the argument that the name is offensive to Native Americans. The decision discussed in the article will enable me to argue my case from a legal standpoint.
Ford, Dan. “The Washington Redskins Shouldn’t Change Their Name.” The Breeze, Blox Content Management System, 13 Sept. 2017, www.breezejmu.org/opinion/the-washington-redskins-shouldn-t-change-their-name/article_10eb0036-97e3-11e7-9be2-1b6f9782d0b8.html.
Ford (1) argues that the Washington Redskins should retain their name because the facts prove that Native Americans are not offended by the name. He also provides examples of other teams with a connection to these Native Americans that use the same name. The argument presented by Ford is logical as it based on facts.

Wait! The debate on whether the Wahington Rediskins name is offensive to Native americans paper is just an example!

Ford (1) goes on to provide statistics from polls and real-life examples that prove the Native Americans are not offended by this name. Ford’s article will help me develop my subject matter by providing evidence that the Natives are indeed not offended by the name. I can use the data in the piece to establish the soundness of my argument.
Weadon, Mark. “The Right Solution for Washington Football: Change the Name, Keep the Logo.” The Washington Post, WP Company, 5 Feb. 2018, www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-right-solution-for-washington-football-change-the-name-keep-the-logo/2018/02/05/5a879b24-09cf-11e8-998c-96deb18cca19_story.html?utm_term=.c8203f4f3686.
Weadon (1) proposes a compromise for the debate that has been going on for years. He argues that the team name of this NFL team is offensive to the Native Americans, but the logo is not. Therefore, the team should change its name and keep the team logo. Weadon’s (1) perspective deviates from the facts about the name. Weadon fails to explain why there are those that are not offended by the name Redskins. Despite its weaknesses, this piece will help me expound on my argument further by presenting an opposing view. Additionally, by explaining some of the flaws in Weadon’s logic, I can strengthen my stand through the opposition.
