Over the past three years, the exoneration rate in the United States has been increasing, and just in the year 2016 alone, 166 individuals who had been wrongfully convicted were exonerated. This has been attributed to the fact that there is a growing rate of accountability in the prosecutorial offices all over the state as well as the involvement of legal organizations such as the innocence commission and the Innocence Project organization. Although the number of those people wrongfully convicted and later get exonerated is low, these organizations still have a significant role to play in our justice system. It does not matter if they manage to get one exoneration per year as long as the person who is wrongfully convicted does not get to suffer for a crime they did not commit (Killias, 34).
Wrongful convictions pose a big threat to public trust as they people will not believe that their justice system is working with their best interests at heart and it is the role of this organizations to make sure that those who are unlucky and end up being sentenced for what they did not do end up getting justice they deserve any compensation for the trouble they went through. These organizations are here to stay. Regardless of how effective our justice system can grow to become, there will always be people who feel the ruling given oppresses them. It may appear that only a few people get wrongfully convicted, but that is not the case, “If you look for them, you will find them.

” It is the role of this organizations to continue looking for these oppressed people, and regardless of how much time passes, they will still be relevant in society.
