The major turning point of the movie is the point when Bertie accepts assistance to end his stutter. Bertie overcame his fears by accepting that he has a speech disorder after delivering his first speech. If there is a psychological reason for Bertie’s stutter, what do you think it is? Why?
Bertie’s stutter is caused by early childhood experiences. He was intimidated and frightened by his father who was oppressive in nature when he was young. Bertie confesses to the speech therapist that he developed the stutter when he was four to five years old. The childhood experience instilled a fear of correctly expressing himself verbally specifically when he was angry. The expression of his speech represents his transgressions against his father (Film education).
Do you believe Logue’s theory that speech impediments come from some deep psychological pain? Why or why not?
Yes. According to Bertie’s early childhood experiences of intimidation and fear, Logue theory is entirely authentic.

How does Logue finally convince Bertie that he deserves to be heard because he is a human being (and not because he is a king)? What is the more considerable significance of this?

Logue asks Bertie who he thinks he is after spending much of his time throughout the movie convincing him that he is a human being just like everyone else. Bertie responds through an acknowledgment that he is a man with a voice (Film education).
If you did not know the context for this speech, what clues could you draw on to tell you that this is a formal public speech, and one made in 1939(as opposed to modern day)?
The name of the movie, The King’s Speech gives a clue to the potential audience that it is not any other ordinary movie. At the start of the movie, the movie starts by informing the audience that the story talks about the British monarchy as it mentions King George V and the Duke of York (Film education). This gives the viewer a clue that the movie discusses a formal speech because all speech given by the monarchy is formal in nature.
What could you say about the accent and pronunciation of the King? What style of English does he seem to use?
The king speaks in a pure British accent and pronounces his words according to the Standard English without errors and with reasonable reference (Film education). The king, therefore, uses the British style of English.
What elements of formal or informal speech can you identify here?
The king uses different elements in his formal speech. For instance, Bertie begins his sentence with words, repeatedly as used in formal language. In most formal languages, the sentence would read, “we have tried to find a peaceful way …over and over again.
In what ways do you think that the King’s power and his humanity come across in the speech?
His power is manifested in the way he elevates Logue to a significant position for his servitude to the monarch. On the other hand, his humanity is revealed when he expresses his concern for the people who see him strolling the streets without him knowing in person any of them (Film education). At one time, the King expresses his concern following the loss of property and family members of the poor people from Coventry after an attack from Germany.
What techniques does the king use here that might be helpful for anyone having to give a speech or a talk in public?
Bertie stands up in a straight posture and keeps his shoulder back when delivering a formal speech.
In what ways did Lionel’s therapy sessions help Bertie?
They helped the king end his chronic stutter, which enabled him to take over the role of the king after his brother decides to step down. Bertie finally is able to prove his manly worth and exert himself to face the responsibilities of a king (Film education). Bertie can send vital messages of hope and reassurance to people of Great Britain both at home and overseas which inspires victory over their rivals.

Logue’s approach as speech therapist was more profound compared to previous doctors who had earlier been assigned the same responsibility (Film education). He shows a sense of care throughout his encounter with the king and readily offers his advice to any issues that he feels free to share with him.

How can this form of expression be constructive or detrimental to our society?
Social networks enable individuals to connect and interact with friends and relatives who are distant from them. However, too much dependence on social networks reduces the prevalence of physical interactions that deprive interactants the features of speech such as body language that is essential to the success of speech (Film education).
How do the actor’s body language and expressions convey their individual feelings and establish their relationship?
Bertie’s tense face, when he reads out the speech to the audience, depicts his fear towards them and makes the viewer wish there could be other alternatives to convey speech other than orally.
From watching the trailer, develop your ideas about the character and their relationships to the film. What indicators does the trailer give concerning the roles of each character and how will these developments in the film?
Bertie’s humiliation because of his state of stutter provokes warm emotions towards a prominent figure and the realization that he is just as human as any other person. His willingness to stand up for his family makes him dominate the film until the end (Film education). Logue’s arrogant mentality that sometimes shows an expression of disrespect towards Bertie helps him to focus on his primary job, which is to overcome the king’s chronic stutter, which he succeeds.
Which characters enabled others to act throughout the King’s speech?
Logue’s defiant character and positive progress in his work as Bertie’s speech therapist enable him to see out the last minute of the movies. The decision by Bertie, however, to continue hiring his services was instrumental in helping Logue act throughout the movie (Film education). Elizabeth is the wife to Bertie and therefore acts throughout the movie as his most relevant companion.
