THE MANAGEMENT PROCESSES AND THE PROBLEM OF THE SMEs

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are companies that have been classified by their size, which depends on the variable used (for sales, employment or capital invested). Research on SMEs have focused on the analysis of the economic perspective and on the scope of business management.

Critical business processes are: the planning process, the management process, the quality process and the financial process. (Palomo González, the integration of management concepts in SMEs. The management process is an approach that manages workflows in the business incorporating the expected responsibilities of staff, equipment and infrastructure, technologies, defining policies, standards and procedures for the corresponding activities.

In these companies there are problems with the management processes of the product or service, markets and customers. There are different studies where the problems are identified in SMEs, these are based on two types of approaches: external and internal. The first is characterized in problems that affect SMEs at the macroeconomic level and the second in problems derived from the management of the business and the economic sector to which it belongs.

There are different studies where the problem in SMEs, the Secretary of Economy of Mexico in its report (Cipi, 2001) is identified, presents the main problems that are identified in SMEs:

  • Limited participation in foreign trade
  • Limited access to financing sources
  • Discourse with the most dynamic sectors
  • Poor training of its human resources
  • Lack of linking to the academic sector
  • They do not have a culture of process innovation and technological development.
