The Snow DaySummary
The Story is about a kid, Peter, who wakes up to lots of snow and sets out for an adventure. Peter makes snow angels, a snowman, and climbs snow mountains. Peter meets older kids involved in a snowball fight but stays away from the battle due to his small age. He carries a snowball in his pocket on his way home that later melts. He wakes up to another adventure (“The Snowy Day”).
Characters, Themes, and Tone
Peter is the story’s principal character. He is appealing to all readers as sweet and innocent. He is both fun-loving and imaginative child. Peter’s mother is tender and supportive and helps Peter to undress before taking a bath (“The Snowy Day”). The theme of the story is a snow-day adventure in childhood’s innocence. The creative skills and creativity of a child have emphasised in the entire book such that the reader can drift off into childhood snow memories.
Illustrations
The use of watercolors and pastel by Keats generates a great and pleasant image of all the exciting activities kids can engage in the snow. The winter fun is brought out by the innocent story told through illustrations and text. For instance, Keats explains how Peter treads in the snow and the footprints he leaves; accompanied by a picture of Peter’s footprints. Also, other illustrations include when Peter creates a snowman, climbs up and then slides down the snow mountain (“The Snowy Day”).
Representation of Diversity
Keats’ aim was not creating a book overwhelmed by cultural differences, but expressing the wonderful experiences of each’s childhood, regardless of cultural diversities.

Wait! the snowy day paper is just an example!

Even though Keats was Jewish and white, his skin color did not prevent him from sharing these cultural details. The book thus represents the featured group positively and encourages understanding and acceptance. The book does not rely on stereotypes. The story does not contain slang or African-American language (“The Snowy Day”).
I would recommend the book since it has a simple language for beginner readers, encompasses no underlying stereotypes, and the language reliable for a kid going out for a snow adventure.
