Because of this, Griet is forced to work as a domestic employee of a wealthy family on the other side of the city to ensure that both dad and his mother will eat every week.

Griet is going to work for this family and turns out to be Johannes Vermeer’s home, a very famous artist. This family is composed of Vermeer’s wife (Catharina), the mother -in. Tanneke, one of the domestic workers, lets Griet know some of the spicy details and secrets of the painter’s life and his family.

Griet’s quiet and reflective way of doing things quickly beats his employers. In the market, the frankness and beauty of Giet attracts the attention of Piter, the son of the butcher of Vermeer’s family, and falls in love with her at first sight.
