Rising Cost of College Education
It is sad to fathom the state of our education today where we are forced to dig deeper into our pocket than our brains for a brighter future. I would like to take this opportunity to affirm to you that the issue of the spreading of college education is not a “your” problem but a “we” problem, which without immediate resolution will send our children’s dreams down the drains.
Cost of a college education has risen in the country for the past three years more than any other sector in the country. In the statement by Libby (49) the cost has increased by over 500% from 1987 to 2018, in 1987 the average tuition fee in a private nonprofit four-year institution was around $15,160 and $34,740 in 2018. In a public four-year institution as per 1987, the tuition fee was only $3,190 and which has increased to $9,970 in 2018 (Libby 49). These numbers clearly show that college education has become a financial burden in many American households, given the fact that the current median income in United States is only $56,000 annually (Libby 49). People complain about the rise of the cost of medical care, but the statistics on college cost shows tuition fee has doubled ever since and it has no signs of slowing down. Colleges are taking advantage of the increase of financial aid from federal states to students. Federal student aid and loan have been increasing ever since the 1990s, this, in turn, pushes colleges to increase their sticker price, on the notion that student can afford (Libby 49-50).

Wait! You are the social policy director for a presidential candidate who will be taking part in a nationally televised debate about education policy. Your job is to write an opening statement that describe paper is just an example!

To end this trend, a program will be initiated that will increase grants and aid with the aim of lowering tuition fee in public institutions. Only college that promises to set an affordable tuition fee for a student without taking any student loans will be eligible for the grant or aid program. Those that will raise their tuition fee will not receive any funding from the state. Some public universities spend a lot of received funds on non-academics’ activities such as marketing and recreational facilities, claiming it for improving the quality of education. In addition, the state funding program will scrutinise how funding used in public institutions and those that do not spend wisely will receive less funding.
As I summarise, it is important to address the rise of tuition fee in colleges since American families are straining to afford better education for their children. Revising the state aid program will help in reducing the cost since it will increase state funding and ensure public funds on education are used wisely. The proposed solution will make education affordable and also improve the quality of education in public institutions.
