The initiative that was put in place to cab the veterans’ brain diagnosis is the Veteran Affair health care that was established in the year 2002. The number of the veterans who were registered to the Veterans Affair (VA) health care was around 1.16 million and by 2014 more than 57.2% had received a provisional diagnosis for mental health (Pickett et al., 2015). This initiative was put to look into the health issues of the veterans.
The main aim of the Veterans Affair health care was to provide an honorary service to the veterans and their family members for the service that they have offered to the country. The VA was also set to fulfill the promise of President Lincoln that was aiming at caring for those who were involved in the battle, their widows and even the orphans to these veterans. The other goal was to eliminate the homelessness among the veterans by the end of the year 2015 and also their unemployment. And also it would look into the wellness of the veterans together with their economic security (Hussey & Ringel, 2015). It was meant to lower the burden that the veterans together with their families might have since most of them were not educated and therefore they didn’t have any other source of income apart from that of the military. When the health was subsidized, they could get a better way of using their little cash on their family lives.
The development of the Veterans Affair was as a result of “the death of a large number of soldiers” who were sent to battle in the foreign countries.

Most of these soldiers could come home with a lot of injuries. These injuries resulted in the health problems such as the mental problems and also trauma. And also most of the military soldiers became homeless and jobless after they came back home from their battle mission in other countries (“Department Affairs,” 2017). Due to these discrepancies, the government looked into ways in which these veterans could be rewarded and provided by honorary treatment for the good work that they did for the nation and that is where the Veterans Affair came into being. The factors that were put into consideration for the initiation of the VA were the injuries that these veterans had encountered during the battle, the homelessness and some also didn’t have a family to take care of them. And also the fact that they were jobless and this couldn’t enable them to take care of their health.
The funding of the Veterans Affair was done by the government and also through the use of the taxes from the citizens. There are also some donations that are given by the well-wishers towards the project of improving the living standards of the veterans.
Some of the VA initiatives that are not meeting the intended purpose are the timeliness at which the veterans can access the health care services. The VA also has a variation in the performance of services that they offer to the patients. In addition to this, most of the patients who had mental health rarely recover from their sickness and in most cases their conditions worsened. This factor has made most of the veterans together with their families to suffer from the mental health to the point of death and even make them dig deep into their pockets to get better medication from private health care.
