Anger and Locus of Control
Step 2
Describe the ways in which you tend to express anger. Integrate at least *two* concepts from the assigned readings. (Textbook 8.3 addresses culture and emotion.)
When I am angry, I tend to take a nature walk and enjoy the scenic beauty of the environment. This helps me transform negative energy in the form of temper and anger to positive and constructive energy. During my nature walks, I ensure I learn something new which ends up helping me overcome the situation. Once in a while, I also play video games to cool my tempers. I tend to harness all the negative energy on video games rather than engaging in a quarrel or a fight after a confrontation.
Discuss at least *three* effective coping strategies you either implement or plan to implement when you experience a high level of anger (anger reactive response) or avoid experiencing anger, even when anger is warranted (anger avoidant response).
When upset, I always tend to think before uttering a word. I always take a pause and take a deep breath while meditating about the incident that led to anger and whether it can be avoided. I only make sure I speak when everything has calmed down before speaking or expressing my anger. At times, I do take breaks and engage in some exercises to help the body relax and to relieve the brain. Exercises are pivotal in expelling anger. I always try my level best to ensure that I do not hold grudges with anyone. This does not only help me avoid experiencing anger but also helps me manage my temper even in situations where anger seemed unavoidable.

Step 4
Explain your results, including if you have an internal or an external locus of control.
I have an internal locus of control with a score of 70 in internal attribution style. I believe that my success and achievement in life is dependent on my dedication, skills, and personality.
How might your locus of control be affecting your life, personally and academically?
I am self-centered and tend to perceive most situations from an individualized perspective. This has far-reaching implication in my life and my education since I hardly consult other people. Although I do interact with people from all walks of life, my judgment and decision are always final. I tend to ignore what others say about me especially when making critical decisions in academics and life.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of an internal locus of control?
Having an internal locus of control is the first step towards personal development. It also helps instill personal discipline since an individual understands that their success is dependent on their behavior and character traits. The major setback of internal locus of control is overconfidence which manifests when an individual believes that their involvement determines the level of success or achievement in life.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of an external locus of control?
External locus of control leads to dependency where an individual believes that he/she must rely on the opinions and ideas of other people to progress in life. This is a major backlash to personal growth and development. However, the external locus of control allows the exchange of ideas and sharing of information which might be crucial when making decisions in life.
Explain at least one situation in which you tend to display an internal locus of control.
Security – safety is a matter of individual concern, and I ensure that I take responsibility for my actions during any incident that imposes threat or danger to my security.
Explain at least one situation in which you tend to display an external locus of control.
Playing a sport – the ability to achieve and win in a team sports is embracing teamwork and appreciating the value and role of each member.
