The main reason why Thomas Jefferson personally chose to be remembered as the author of the declaration of American independence, the statute of Virginia for religious freedom and as the father of the University of Virginia was majorly so that he could set his story right and also because this formed the foundation upon which generations after him will build on to make America an even better place. The future is what he gave to the people. His achievement however as president or vice president or secretary of state of the minister to France would only be a monument without any significance in the future as many more would hold this office too.
Thomas Jefferson was more concerned about the declaration of independence because he wanted people to understand the principles there in, their responsibility as a people and the need to adopt it. His emphasis was that the objective of the declaration of independence was to place before mankind common sense in terms and a manner so plain and strong so as to command their assent, and to help one justify him or herself in the independent stand they were compelled to take. He espoused it as a sign of the blessing of self-governance in a changing world.
His epitaph inscription regarding the statute of Virginia of religious freedom has to do with his public silence on the subject of slavery; he once justified his inaction by alluding that a good cause is at time injured by ill-timed efforts of its friends than its enemies argument.Virginia state law created a provision for a freed slave to leave the state within a year of release.

Wait! Comment on what you think of Jefferson’s personal choices on his tombstone paper is just an example!

Thomas Jefferson implored the assembly of Virginia to let freed slaves remain in the state because that was where their families were and his request was granted .in his will Thomas freed five slaves. He once mentioned to his granddaughter Ellen that prosperity shows how soon a man’s diligence can transform a place to be like paradise were it not for misgovernment and a diversion of all his energies from proper objectiveness(slavery).

Thirdly as the father of the University of Virginia, because he envisioned a school that would instill national character and stature, one dedicated to educating and equipping leaders in practical affairs and public service rather than classroom professions .he is the first and only American president to found an institution of higher learning. He developed a list of 7000 books that were required to fill the library; he instituted an innovative elective system rather than a fixed curriculum, and students were free to choose their courses because he believed on the unlimited freedom of the mind to explore all subjects susceptible to its contemplation.
