Homework as a topic sparks controversy everywhere in the world. Though there is no rigorous research performed to ascertain that homework is useless, many controversial issues are existing trying to justify it. That develops the question; how do teachers continue giving homework to students or how do we measure the amount and how much is too much (Moyer, 2017). Reasoning out on the issue, students are now getting more work than they used to. There not being evidence to certify that, we cannot say that homework is doing good or to children. Following that, there is a reason to think that it’s doing kids more harm than it’s doing good to them. The elementary schools are the ones hard hit by the problem of too much homework. According to research performed by Harris Cooper and his colleagues, there is no relationship between better performance and more homework.
Teachers are blinded by the false allegation that more homework will give a student more practice hence make them have good performances. Elementary school kids who do the homework perform no better than the ones that do not. However, middle school and high school kids tend to perform better when they take more homework (Moyer, 2017). The levels of learning constitute high amounts of coursework which a student should do more practice to grasp the knowledge in it. Despite that, the research found out that better performance is not achieved with an increase in the amount of homework.

Wait! Compare and Contrast Portfolio paper is just an example!

The above descriptions give an insight into the relationship between performance and homework. The irrational of the two can be determined by many other factors other than the age of the student taking them. Student characteristics will influence the way he or she will perform despite good doing too much homework.
Student background is another factor to include in the student’s characteristics. If a student is struggling in school, it’s quite evident that he or she will be striving more with their homework yet perform poorly at the end of the course (Moyer, 2017). On the other hand, a highly motivated student will take less time to carry on with his homework and yet achieve excellently at the end. As all the above are controversies and uncertified conclusions, the bottom-line remains that the parents are the best judges of how homework is affecting their children. They can do that through assessing how the children are faring and then giving the best recommendations to the teachers. Homework hinders children from participating in other activities meaning that they should have no homework. Practice should be carried out on their pleasure and not forced to do it. Forcing will make them develop a resistance which is not healthy.
More homework at home makes parents feel responsible for making sure that they complete it on time. That leaves them in a tight spot of deciding the chores that they will assign to the children and assure that they finish their school work on time (Loveless, 2014). It hinders the physical development of a child and the mental health due to too much exhaustion. Some of the parents though, do not notice the problem they are causing their children by asking for more work from them. They tend to follow the belief that more work will make them pass but do not monitor the trend of their children’s performance. A whole day of learning will make the student extremely tired and unable to concentrate in the evening while taking the homework. That, in turn, will make him, or her develop a disliking to education and a bad attitude. As a result, hatred to school is developed.
From the above, no right performance is expected from an exhausted student who dislikes education as a result of too much work. Despite that, other activities such family times are hindered. Homework becomes a household lifestyle which involves even the parents. The most concerned stakes here are the parents and the students who are unhappy about the work (Loveless, 2014). The complaints about homework and the origin of these controversies seem to be at personal levels and motives are to compromise the authorities of some schools. However, despite homework having some benefits to parents, students and the teacher, the person who carries the greatest burden is the student who is left exhausted. That means that even concentration on the school work is not devoted to doing it well but just completing it. The main reason for administering homework is to enhance achievement which does not happen.
The allegation that enhances the relationship between family members is far much deceiving. In the modern world, the nor of cheating has evolved which do not benefit the students at any point. They will be rewarded for something that they did not carry out on their own but another person’s work. That develops the meaning that homework does no good (Loveless, 2014). Students should be helped with tasks that will foster healthy practice on the work that they have done and not assignments that they will end up copying from one another. Also, parents should leave the belief that achievement of good performance will be through too much homework. They should also concentrate on the child’s goodwill and health which also play a vital role in making sure that he or she performs well. Students should not have homework, and if it’s a must, then it should be on an adjusted basis.
