Conflict Management and Humanitarian Action
The Arab world has been for a long time been affected by conflicts and acts of terrorism. Some of the reasons of the conflict in the region include climate change such as drought. For instance, 905% of livestock and farms were destroyed as a result of the water shortages and drought. The conflict has caused food shortages since farmers have been immigrating to different regions to look for jobs. The crisis in the Arab world countries calls for a resolution to end human and economic suffering. Conflict can be described as the disagreement between people. It is a struggle between two or more interdependent parties who may be fighting for scarce resources or incompatible goals. Now that conflicts are inevitable, the important thing to do is to know how to deal with them. Conflict management is one of the approaches to conflict, and it aims at reducing the negative aspects of disputes and increasing its positive aspects. It can also be referred to as the process through which two conflicting sides are made stop fighting for the sake of peace. Conflict management is about how people deal with the wrongs that are done to them.
Conflict management is a process that is undertaken for a certain period with the aim of limiting and containing the conflict. Conflicts are the main obstacles when it comes to sustainable development. It creates unimaginable human suffering and makes it even more difficult to get out of poverty.

Wait! Conflict Management and Humanitarian Action paper is just an example!

Conflicts have for the longest time made some countries in the world poor and desolate, for instance, the case of the civil war in Syria. Violent conflicts lead to the loss of lives and displacement of others from their homes (Branczik, February, 2004). The world has witnessed many cases of conflicts some of which have gone on for decades. Such conflicts constitute rapes, kidnappings, genocides, and terrorist attacks.
In the recent past, the nature of conflicts has changed considerably. For instance, in the post-Cold War era, conflict often occurred among nation states. However, in today’s world, most of the conflict that is being witnessed is as a result of power and dominance struggles within states, and religion and ethnic conflicts. These kinds of conflicts have been witnessed in the Arab world and have resulted to refugees who have fallen prey to epidemics, starvation, and despair. The post-Cold War conflicts caused millions of casualties. Such occurrences are the ones that have necessitated humanitarian action as a way of trying to rebuild some of the war-torn countries once the conflicts end. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for the last sixty-eight years. Several approaches have been used in conflict management some of which have worked while others did not bear any fruits.
While conflicts adversely impact peoples lives, the primary aim in the conflict location would be to prevent more casualties, while attending to those who are already there, and ensuring they have access to survival basics such as food, water, healthcare, and shelter. The main purpose of humanitarian action is to help the displaced people, and prevent conflict from spreading, prepare the victims for rehabilitation, and to support the relief work (Branczik, February 2004). Protection of the basic human rights is one of the goals of the international community. The situation in Syria has raised international concern, and several countries have tried to intervene to stop human rights violations and the protracted killings.
Conflict management helps in promoting security and stability by trying to resolve the conflict between the two bodies that are at war. Studying conflict management and humanitarian action is a great step in the right direction in promoting security and stability in the Arab world. Humanitarians offer their services based on certain principles such as assisting and providing protection without distinction on race, religion, or color. Humanitarian action is impartial and should ensure that all individuals that require assistance receive it. It should not only have these as their main roles since they are temporary but also aim at promoting long-term objectives such as peace and promoting human rights (Branczik, February 2004). The main actors in humanitarian aid are international and regional organizations, unilateral assistance, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the military. The military ensures the affected region is secure for the relief agencies to operate. In some cases, the military may assist when the NGOs and the IOs are not able to deal with security problems or are overstretched. NGOs provide aid to partners of the United Nations agencies or directly. Their advantage is that they do not have political restrictions which allows them to work even in difficult places.
Some of the Arab world countries have been experiencing constant conflicts for quite some time. Most of the conflicts have resulted from oil wells possessions and the annexation of Kuwait by Iraq that occurred in 1990. The study of conflict management and humanitarian action has worked in some Arabic regions hence my interest in pursuing the course at Doha Institute. I have worked with the UNHCR especially after the Syrian crisis which has given me hands-on experience in dealing with conflict victims. I want to pursue my master’s course since I believe there is still more that can be done to promote security and stability in some of the war-torn Arab countries. I believe that the course will give me more skills and the competence needed to work in different humanitarian action areas. I want to get familiar with some of the peace-building activities that are relevant to areas with conflicts.
