Energy access, Infrastructure Finance and Economic growth in developing countries Research proposal
Many African countries marked a period of economic growth immediately following the independence. However, after the initial era of growth, most of the economies in Africa faltered and then started to decline. The region has witnessed an era of decreasing per capita income, increasing poverty and hunger, and accelerating ecological degradation. This is regardless the reality that economic growth is critical in the developing nations, towards the end of improving the income of the people, reducing poverty, and increasing the standards of living. There is a need for creation of employment opportunities for the citizens to provide for their families, and more importantly, to build a future that is sustainable (Dabla-Norris, et al, 1).
Despite the need for economic growth in African countries, major challenges face sustainable economic growth, including lack of adequate access to energy and poor infrastructure. These two and many other challenges are the focus of national and international efforts to address poverty and lack of development in African nations. The achievement of the efforts of national and international policy makers to ensure adequate access to sustainable energy and adequate infrastructure for economic development is still a rich area of research. More important, there is still need for more research on investment in energy and infrastructure by the global players in developing nations (Hussain and Sabri, 79)
Therefore, this research is aimed at investigating the impact of foreign investment in the energy and infrastructure on economic growth in the developing nations.

Given that it is not possible to research all the developing nations to achieve this objective, the case of Kenya will be studied. Kenya is selected for this study because of its geopolitical position and the increased interests by investors and foreign development partners. Also, the findings from this case can be generalized to other developing nations in Africa since they share the challenges and have many other factors in common that are related to economic growth.
This topic is selected for the study because economic growth is important for the citizens of the developing nations and the need for major changes to change the lives at the individual level. In addition to this, the policy makers need to put in place frameworks that will ensure that the regulatory models utilized in their country are more supportive of financial support for energy and infrastructure. The proposed study intends to identify the different efforts that have been made at the national and international level to achieve these changes. The impact of these efforts, whether positive or negative will inform changes, and the direction assumed to achieve economic development in many African nations.
To achieve the objective of the study, I propose to use both archival and quantitative methods of study. The research design will be used for the research is concurrent mixed methods that unite the collected data to come up with a comprehensive analysis of the problem in question. The purpose of concurrent mixed methods is collecting both qualitative and quantitative kind of data in such as a way that the interpretation of the results is easy. The data to be integrated into this case is that from the questionnaire and examination of documents. Besides the data from documented sources and other related studies, experts in economic growth in the developing nations will be a great source of data through filling in of questionnaires. The data from both sources will be analyzed to provide the findings.
