Gender stratification is a state in a society where men enjoy greater ranks than women. Gender stratification can be used to mean gender inequality. The gender stratification has been a societal belief for decades around the globe. Men have continued to have more social power, physical and status in the public dome than what women have. Women tend to be less aggressive and ferocious while men tend to be extra antagonistic and fierce. These give men the grounds to define society, hold public offices, and formulate rules and laws to be followed. The feminists also take the advantage and start controlling women. In the past, women in the United States of America were not allowed to vote, serve on a jury, own property or testifying in the court. However, in the 21st century, much has been realized in strive to bridge the gap. Women can vote, testify in courts, own property, serve on a jury, and perform much of what men do including serving in the military. Though much has been done to eradicate gender stratification, men still dominate in the high-level position. Despite the fact that women are in the military, they remain less robust and have lower status than men hence the gender stratification in the military.
Women have been discouraged in some careers usually described as masculine. But some women take the courage and find the opportunities. However, they face gender stratification in the workplace as they execute their duties.

Wait! Gender stratification paper is just an example!

In the military, men have higher status and positions than women. This brings about positional bias in the military. Most of the key military positions are held by men. Women are not placed in the frontline in security matters. When war erupts, only men are assigned the duty to calm the situation while women are given the back seat. Promotions in the military are common to men, but women seldom get promotions. Mostly, women are given light jobs like receptionist, secretary or cooks. The idea that women cannot perform some tasks dominate the military and hence gender stratification.
The population of women in the military is extremely small. The job is perceived as one that requires physical strength and stamina. The society assumes that women are weak and therefore cannot perform tasks that require the use of force. When advertised, the positions slotted for men are always higher than the positions slotted for women. This eventually leads to the shortage of women in the military. Therefore, the difference in population between men and women in military starts at the recruitment level as both are not given equal opportunities hence the women small population in the military. Though not permitted, Sexual harassment is common in the military. Women find themselves sexually harassed by men. Sexual harassment that women face is bullying, intimidation, teasing or compulsion of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment may be a specific proposal protracted to an individual in return for sexual prizes. Women are forced to do what they don’t want to be given promotion or certain favors in the military. Males who are involved in sexual harassment are rarely punished. This shows how the society joins men to mistreat women. This gender stratification belittles women and therefore a barrier to their success.
There is a gap between what men and women earn performing same tasks. Though strides being made to seal the gap. Women continue to be paid less than men in the military. Whenever there is applications for promotion, women with high qualifications are often bashed back for male candidates. This happens even when women have similar training, experience and work the same number of hours and have the same responsibility as men in the military. This shows how inequality is rampant in our institutions. The perception that women should be paid little is an outdated notion, and therefore, females and males should have equal wages. Equal levels should be paid the same to ensure that women are motivated to join the military. Men believe that women are supposed to keep hygiene at a high level whenever they are. Since men are the majority in the military, they tend to mistreat and overwork women. They treat women as maids in the workplace, yet they are employed to execute the same duties. Men render the bathrooms and restrooms dirty assuming that women are supposed to wash them. They feel superior and powerful to wash restrooms. Since women are the minority in the military, they bow down and wash the restrooms and bathrooms for them. This is a gender stratification which should be eradicated, and men get informed that all tasks can be performed by either gender.
Women always feel inferior. Their ideas are not taken seriously or not heard. However, ideas presented by men are always taken seriously and implemented. Men think that they should only be nice to women. This prompts them to open doors and offer to pay for what they don’t do to women at the workplace assuming that by doing so women will feel included. This behavior strengthens the notion that women want to look after through gallant displays. However, women don’t need or want this, and therefore, gender stratification continues to thrive. Though most of the negative challenges that women face in the military are simply because of gender differences, there are also some challenges influenced by social class or race.
To solve gender stratification in the military, there are steps that should be taken to bridge the gap between men and women. When recruiting men and women to the military, both should be given equal opportunities. The number of vacancies advertised for men should be equal to the number of vacancies advertised for women. The recruitment process should favor both gender but not either of them. These efforts will increase the number of women in the military hence improving the ratio between men and women. With the improved ratio between men and women, the idea of favoring men in the military will cease and hence eradicate gender stratification. During promotions, men and women should be given equal chances. People performing similar tasks and holding same education qualifications should be given an opportunity to express themselves and get a promotion by merit. The notion that men are the ones to lead should be fought strongly. Women also have the ability to lead in the military and therefore should be given the opportunity. To achieve this, policies should be formulated that safeguard the promotions. Strict policies against sexual harassment should be put in place to ensure that there is no tolerance. There should be an easy way for women to report instances of sexual harassment. The consequences of the sexual harassment offenders should be clearly stated and implemented accordingly.
In the military, males and females should be assigned similar duties. Women should have a chance of being at the forefront of security issues. In war, only men are considered as the forefront fighters while women take the back seat. This should not be the case. Women have the ability to fight as men do and therefore, this discrimination on duties should be abandoned. People should be assigned duties or roles based on the ability but not gender. The assumption that women are better suited to support type roles should be proven otherwise. Therefore, hiring and sharing of labor should be conducted on the foundation of an individual’s aptitudes and character, irrespective of whether they are men or women. The partiality of clients or the teams should not be a legitimate and secure cause to treat men and women differently according to sex. For the same role, Females and males have to be paid equally. Policies that dictates equal wage compensation for both males and females ought to be established. A platform to present ideas should be established to ensure that ideas from either gender are considered. This is because ideas from men are considered while ideas from women are not considered. With a well-established procedure, women’s ideas will be considered and hence eradicate gender stratification.
Therefore, as it is in many institutions and organization, gender stratification is common in the military. In the past, women could join the military. But in the current world, women are slowly joining military and other jobs that in the past were perceived as men’s’ jobs. This has been realized because of the quest for gender equality. However, in the workplace women face discrimination. The examples of gender stratification in the military also happen in other places and therefore, much efforts and policies should be established to guard women in the workplace. With commitment and awareness, gender stratification will eventually end.
