Gods and Generals Movie Review
Introduction
Gods and Generals is an American art of drama film showcasing civil war outbreak. It was written and directed in 2003 by Ronald Maxwell. The film featured the following stars; Robert Duvall characterized as General Robert Lee; Stephen Lang as General Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson and Jeff Daniels as Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Chamberlain (Shaara and Jeff, 22). The movie explains an explicitly touching story of one of the events in the American history that will go down in ages remembered. These events influenced the American people and the nation at large. It forms the basis of their solid bond as states merged and civil war ended never to be witnessed again. The movie targets the youths and future generations who memorize the events well and wish not to have a repeat of the same again. In conjunction to this, the paper walks through the Gods and General movie in an attempt to uncover its objectives and whether the author achieved the thesis. The Plot
The movie centers on the main character Thomas Jonathan ‘Stonewall’ Jackson, who is God fearing and brilliant Confederate military general. In the American civil war outbreak in 1863.In May this year, while on a ride with his staff was shot dead by his soldiers.

General Jackson was a commander at Chancellorsville battle. The battles of Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and that of Chancellorsville are the most featured in this movie.
From the highly contested battle of Fredericksburg till the battle of Chancellorsville where General Stonewall is fatally wounded by his staff, the movie displays a clear, brilliant existence of these great military leaders at a time of turmoil in American history. The chronology of events in the movie depicts a magnificent flow of events about the war of states or civil war and yet a powerfully attractive and entertaining movie that evokes emotion that one cannot miss watering his/her eyes.
At the epitome of the war of states, General Lee is requested by the states secretary Mr. Blair to take charge of the United States Army to cool down the rebellion. Later the Virginia legislature summons him, and he is put in charge of the armies of Virginia to defend against the attacking troops of the north.
General Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson is ordered to recruit soldiers from western Virginia State while he was still a professor at Virginia Military Institute. He later organizes the troops for the battle of Bull Run. It is at this battle that he first acquires the nickname ‘Stonewall’ his troops and himself stood like a stone wall.

THEMES
1. Christianity
The movie displays a lot of Christian values with strong moral support and moral resolutions that include prayers, baptism and some invocations of the Lord’s (God) grace. Given any obscene it would be rebuked and cursed never to happen again. Christianity comes out clearly when General Jackson calls his wife Anna and asks her to sit down and read together a verse and Jackson finds his Bible on a shelf (Shaara and Jeff, 32). The wife reminds him of a verse in the book of second Corinthians, chapter five “…yes, yes, here, Corinthians…I have been thinking hard about this verse, and it reads “…for we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were resolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heavens”. This is a powerful message to the Christian world across the world as it inspires hope especially for General Jackson at the time of the American civil war. Prayers are heartfelt and honest (Woodworth and Steven, 33).
2. War and murderBloodshed is evident complete with blood and chopped body parts. The Irish troops attempt to cross over a field and attack the Confederate troops but are forced to retreat following the stone wall and the confederate’s artillery fire. General Chamberlain leads troops to a failed invasion against General Jackson’s defense team, commanded by Brigadier General Armistead and finds his troops pinned down in the open field (Shaara and Jeff, 22). He survives this by shielding himself against a lying corpse. In the war of Chancellorsville, General Jackson leads his troops to a surprise attack on the Union troops. He gets fatally wounded when he caught at the no mans land by his soldiers, who mistake him for the union’s army counter attacking. General Lee takes command of the northern Virginia army and March on an attack of the north.
Does the author prove his thesis?
The author of this movie has to some degree achieved his speculated goals through carefully combining military lifestyle with living Christian values. The question fully answered that can one fight a successful battle without the intervention of God’s grace. The author has fully and in lengthy achieved this by rebuking any obscene occurrences and constantly calling the name of Jesus Christ (Woodworth and Steven, 28). Also, the theme of war has staged so immensely in the movie as the congregate troops plan and executes attacks against the US union army. Donzaleigh Abernathy plays the other African-American talking part, that of a cleaning specialist named Martha who endeavors to hop the firearm on Reconstruction by staying behind when her white bosses clear and telling the arriving Union troops it is her home. Later, when they lay hold of it as a healing center, she looks somewhat angry.
“Divine beings and Generals” is the sort of motion picture cherished by individuals who never go to the motion pictures, because they are keen on something else- – the Civil War, for instance – and think chronicled precision is ethical rather than characteristic. The film plays like a unique issue of American Heritage. Ted Turner is one of its prime movers and gives himself an in a split second conspicuous cameo appearance. Since sneak reviews should as of now have educated him that his sudden appearance draws a snicker, clearly he can live with that (Woodworth and Steven, 18-24).
Conclusion
The movie is a monumental and a historical epic of moviemaking that will be memorized for so long. It paints a brilliant picture of the Christian faithful of a military background (the generals) at a time of turmoil and tribulation. It recognizes the deep spiritual values of all the troops involved in the civil war. It is clear, the chronology of events in the movie depicts a magnificent flow of events about the war of states or civil war and yet a powerfully attractive and entertaining movie that evokes emotion that one cannot miss watering his/her eyes.
