1. In the book, gone with the wind, Rhett Butler tells the southerners that they will never conquer the North, which makes them feel insulted. He tells the southerners that if they go to war with the United States, they are not likely to win because it has money and men. He claims that if they are not whipped by guns, powder, and steel, they will be starved to death. He adds that the flower of the country, or rather the young men, will be taken.
2. There is nowhere in the movie that Rhett Butler uses words to describe something missing in the battle. However, he is a wealthy person and offers financial backing to the southerners, and that could be the missing thing in the battles.
3. Ellen suggests to Scarlet to go to Atlanta and to cheer up, but she is gloomy for the wrong reason. She is widowed and agrees to go only because she will have a chance to see Melanie again. Her nurse, Mammy, does not think it is in her best interest, and she tells her so. While in Atlanta, she attends a fundraising ball for the Confederate army (Mitchell, 287). Being a widow, she should not be enjoying herself. Her dancing at the bizarre is shocking because she is supposed to be mourning. I think she dances covertly to forget her loss and she enjoys bending the rules.
4. Prissy had been lying that she knows much about childbirth, but she later admits that she knows nothing. Prissy’s conduct says much about the racism of White Americans in the 1930s when the film was produced.

Just like Prissy, White Americans were negligent and did not take anything that involved the people of colour seriously. As a matter of facts, she is a character who acts with a lot of carelessness. Prissy makes me feel angered by the fact that she was gambling with someone’s life.
5. The imagery of hundreds of wounded soldiers lying about downtown Atlanta makes me feel sorry for the southerners. First, they had been warned about the war but did not take the warning seriously. Also, the imagery makes the seriousness of the war clear to me, thus causing some grief. Undoubtedly, the situation in the South is worsening, and there is nothing to smile about. The southerners are in need of more doctors and nurses. They do not even have a hospital as Dr. Meade is working at the train station. Therefore, the southerners were not prepared as Rhett had already declared before the war. Commoners like Scarlet and Melanie are the ones volunteering as nurses.
6. Atlanta is burning, and scarlet is scared. The southern ancestors could have likewise gone through such fear in the past. It is quite obvious that they were inferior to the Northerner. It is quite evident that Tara is a haven for passing soldiers and they require to be given food and rest (Mitchell, 350). Their ancestors could have as well gone through the same problem. It teaches that the war has no mercy and retreat could have been the best option for the southerners. However, there is no retreat now since they chose to ignore Rhett’s warning and even felt insulted.
7. Scarlet is surrounded by a cloud of dismay after realizing that her mother died of typhoid and left her already troubled father practically mad. Besides, they have no food, money or livestock to speak of and, therefore, Scarlet goes to the field to clear her head. She pulls a carrot from the ground and starts eating it. She says that she will never be hungry again because she has resolved not to give up. Scarlet is a strong woman who does not seem to lose hope at any given point. Months later, the war enters its final stages and scarlet helps her sisters with manual labour (Mitchell, 286). She is also magnificent to Melanie and does not want her to help with work because she is not strong yet. The fact that she kills a soldier by shooting him in the face shows that she is ready to do anything to protect the people that she loves.
8. Scalawags were southerners who deceitfully supported the Republican party after the civil war. They encompassed southern whites who supported the federal government during the Congressional Reconstruction. They held the majority of the public offices in the ruling government than the northern newcomers or even the African American politicians. However, they encompassed the majority of the delegates during the constitutional conventions that took place between 1867 and 1869. The most prominent Scalawags were governors from the reconstruction states. Carpetbaggers, on the other hand, were Northerners who headed to the southern states after the American civil war of 1861 to 1865. However, their intentions were malicious as they came to gain a political or financial advantage. Their name is derived from their common practice of using carpets to carry their belongings. They came to the south to take advantage of the low land prices and other Southern misfortunes during the Reconstruction.
9. Women could not leave their children behind while some were left widowed by the war. While some were displaced from their farms and their belongings, others had a hard time looking after their relatives who went missing following the American civil war. Hugh expresses fear of leaving his family all day to go to war. However, teachers who were willing to educate the blacks were blacks too, who were assaulted and forced to stay with the them.
10. What prevents Ashley from running off with Scarlet is because he was planning to marry Charles sister, Melanie. Scarlet loves Ashley, and that is why she is furious and berates Ashley for giving her the impression that he is in love with her (Mitchell, 940). Also, Scarlet is already married to Charles, and she did so to hurt Scarlet. Ashley knew that Scarlet loved Tara and proceeds to place a clump of Tara’s red clay on her hands. This was meant to invoke Scarlet’s spirits for Tara so that he can forget about Ashley and move on. This move was fruitful as Scarlet walked back to the house after remembering her love for Tara.
11. Towards the end of the film, Rhett leaves Scarlet because it is very evident she will always love Ashley. He also wants to start a new life back in his hometown of Charlestown (Mitchell, 274). He makes it clear to her that he has tolerated her drama long enough. Even after Scarlet tells him she fears what might happen once he is gone, he says he doesn’t care.
