However, it is sometimes difficult for them to put what they learn in class into practice. To this end, it is important therefore for the early childhood professionals to devise a way through which the children apply the theory learnt in class into practice both at home and in school. One of the ways of ensuring this is by providing the children with resources and ideas which are shared with the children’s family. By so doing, the lessons learnt in class is practised at home with the help of the parents who acquire incites from the ideas provided by the teachers. These ideas can be nutritional, educational or ones concerning the health of the children. Currently, the early childhood professionals are using the healthy take home bags which are provided at specified intervals.

Dear Family,
We wish to take this opportunity to greet you in place of our school. We are happy to inform you that our school has started a new program which requires us to send the children home with a healthy take home bag. This program is aimed at helping the children have a healthy growth.
As such, your child will carry a bag home containing some of the resources that are recommended to improve his or her growth. You as the parent are requested to explore the ideas and suggestions with your family as a whole. Some of the items required will be contained in the bag. However, some of them might be found from outside sources.
In the bag, is the ‘Good Enough to eat’ book which is written by Lizzy Lockwell and published in 1999 for the first time by Herper Collins. The books help the child to read and practice making some of the nutritious meals. The book provides a hands-on and a practical tool for your whole family to make and develop an interest in healthy diets. The book is easy to read and understand to both you and your family.
We have also included the eating alphabet, which is a book giving a brief description of most of the nutritious foods and vegetables which your family could consider using. The book was written by Lois Ehlert. This book was published for the first time in 1993 by Houghton Mifflin. However, there have been revisions over the years. The book is easy for the kid to read as it provides him or her with a variety of items to pronounce in alphabetical order.
As a form of manipulative exercise, the bag will contain marbles of different colors that the children will be required to pick depending on whether they represent fruits or vegetables. The two colors used for the exercise are red and green. Green represents vegetables while red represents fruits. Please take the exercise with your child to help him or she understands the difference between fruits and vegetables that sometimes appear confusing, for example, a tomato.
Dramatic plays are an important part of a child’s learning exercise. They help children explore and interact with roles and tools that the parents use every day. For the purpose of this project, they will help the children understand why you as a parent, usually make some decisions, for example telling children to wash their hands before they eat. You are asked to acquire a health officer’s costume from Lakeshore manufactures and help your child play the health officer.
Additionally, the bag will contain savory sensory learning exercise that will help the child to attain a great sensory experience in his or her learning process. This exercise will help your child to manipulate and explore the items around his or her environment. As such, the child will be required to prepare some certain types of food. The practice will add experience to the child while at the same time acting as a recreational activity.
In the bag, there is a suggested recipe that you are requested to help your child to prepare. During this period, you are asked to help your kid prepare carrot chips, which are healthy for the children’s growth. The steps in preparation involve using the vegetable peeler to peel the carrots into small thin potions, covering the bottom part with olive oil and then laying the pieces into a pan and finally adding salt. The chips are baked for 10 – 15 minutes.
A science experiment is suggested to help the child understand the importance of cooking food for the correct amount of time. You will require two pieces of potatoes, one cooked and the other one raw, two glass containers and water. Using a spoon, scope a hole at the centre of each potato and add some water. Fill the glass containers with salty water and then float the potatoes in the two different containers. Wait for about two hours, then check. The water in the raw potato will dry off since it will have moved to the glass jar as it contains live cells. On the other hand, the water in the cooked potato will remain. The enzymes in the cooked potato are not alive.
The nutritional and healthy food program will be carried out throughout the year. The child will bring home a healthy take home bag once every week. The bags provided to the children are resalable therefore kindly have your child return the bag each and every week. This will allow us to provide your child with a new bag containing different healthy suggestions.
The resources included in the bag are accompanied with activities that should be carried out by your child with your help to improve his or her health. They will help the child to have proper physical exercise and recommended meals for his growth. The activities will help the child to gain a clear understanding of how his body works and how to prepare a healthy meal. Included with each activity is a series of questions in the form of a game. The child is asked a question about the right recipe for a certain type of food and should only be rewarded with the food type only if he wins the game by answering at least 90% of the questions correctly.
Obesity is a current global problem facing more than 50% of the world population. Research has shown that most people do not know that they are obese. This is because; people associate obesity with large body mass. To this end, people fail to take the preventive measures on time. The bag includes a suggestion of a book that can help you and your family to learn and know more about obesity. The book is called preventing child obesity by Jeffrey Koplan.
In the bag, there is a book on a variety of recipes which you and your child can explore. Further, we have included a reflection book which both of you are to record the specifics required at the end of every activity. Please note that both you and your child are allowed to record the detail in the book. Recording some of these activities will help you as a parent to determine the level of achievement that your child has achieved health wise.
Thank you very much for your purpose to take this opportunity to give support to your child. In case of any ideas, we highly welcome them to improve our Healthy Take Home Bag program.
Sincerely,
