Fight Song
The ‘Fight Song’ is creatively designed to articulate the suffrages that result from the confrontations. The title ‘Fight Song’ sets the tone of optimism despite the hindrances to success. Essentially, this is an appeal to the ethical and logical perspectives of the listeners to feel the social injustices, the consequences, and the frustration of the victims (Platten, 2015). Therefore, the author prepares the audience for a mesmerizing experience that using a careful word choice and pronounces to portray the tone. In this case, the phrase ‘Fight Song” brings out an emotional appeal that gives listeners or public the desire to investigate what happens in the mainstream society, for example, gender inequality and prejudice. Besides, the strong introductory phrases enhance the suspense among the listeners to strive to comprehend every instance of the author’s experience or imagination. Based on the diction in the song, the author succeeded in progressing the spirit of self-empowerment despite the challenges that hinder women development.
Rachel Platten voices the frustrations of women arising lack of equality. She seems infuriated from the beginning to the end of the literature by using descriptive phrases to portray that women should take the initiative to advance their position without worrying about the perceptions of the public. In this regards, she makes a claim that other people’s belief or lack of the same does not worry her.

This notion depicts a decided person that does not need the approval of other people or society to do a task. Perhaps, she was infuriated by the limited opportunities accorded to the women in the mainstream society. Therefore, she aimed to illuminate the problems of the minority groups and motivate them to seek mechanisms for exploring their talents regardless of the social constructs regarding gender roles (Hartman & Valiente, 2015). In line sixteen, Platten mentions “My power’s turned on” to demonstrate her decision to advance personal growth (Platten, 2015). This position attracts the attention listeners to understand the singer’s frustration. Partly, she suggested that frustrations in the music career motivated the composition of the song. She used the song to communicate and encourage the public to embrace the challenges and formulate reasonable responses. Similarly, Platten emphasized that everyone should resuscitate their essential attributes and motivations to survive the challenges.
Besides, Platten asserts, “I might only have one match, but can make explosion” to suggest the inner motivation to surpass or disapprove doubters (Platten, 2015). In this view, she uses the diction in the form of match and explosion to indicate that even though she lacks to physique or masculinity to challenge the mighty, she has the capability to create lasting change. In this view, she creates a sense of optimism amongst the hopeless people to believe in their psychic abilities to succeed. This viewpoint supports the earlier suggestion that everyone has a natural source of motivation (Hartman & Valiente, 2015). In addition, the diction represented by the firm choice of words is aimed at helping people to reflect or explore and nurture their talents to achieve milestones in life.
Platten’s choice of vocabulary comprising ‘fight song’ or ‘like a small boat in the ocean” depicts the position in the society. “Fight Song” outlines either a physical or a mental struggle to overcome the social injustices or challenges of life. Similarly, the boat, in this case, symbolizes the small role she plays in advancing the intent of becoming an independent person. Normally, the boat is small but facilitates critical process such as transportation and fishing. In this view, she likens herself to the role of the vessel by demonstrating that despite her little experience or the multiplicity of the challenges, she has a major role. Notwithstanding the vastness of the ocean, the boat traverses the waters without any fear. The viewpoint connotes with Platten’s motivation of improving her economic and political career in music despite the obstacles and disbelief of the public. Platten won the attention and inculcated an option of optimism in the in life. The contents describe the characters as a brave person that strives to meet high standards regardless of the obstacles (Hartman & Valiente, 2015). Platten’s motivation is an inspiration for others on her case to attain greatness. Despite the case, hostility is one of the incidences that Platten perceives as a hindrance to the normalcy of life.
Platten’s choice of words indicates that self-fulfillment requires the emotional stability. She identifies that the psychological well-being is a broad concept that requires people to have confidants for emotional and physical support. The loneliness that comes with losing trusted people can detriment the social and individual growth. However, she elaborates that the friends should add value to the individual’s life. This perspective directly relates to the dominant agenda of a positivism regardless of the consequences of an action (Hartman & Valiente, 2015). The songwriter managed to leave listeners in awe creating anxiety from the hidden meanings of her statements.
In the pursuit to inculcate a culture of self-empowerment, the writer used appealing words to describe her current environment away from home. The use of attractive words is a mechanism to appeal to a wide audience and enable them to visualize the setting. In addition, the diction in this enhances the attachment to the audiences’ way of life and perceptions about social issues. Besides, Platten indicates displeasure with the current environment to justify that home is the most important environment for a person (Platten, 2015). Platten offers this description to influence the audience to find the inherent virtues to improve their background. Home, in this case, portrays an array of things ranging tom belief in oneself, the social structure, household, and the country. The diction, in this case, aimed at persuading people to improve their lives and minimize dependence on external assistance. In addition, a person should invest or strive to improve his or her personal environment to gain the benefits instead of waiting for help from the state or community member. This aspect communicates the importance of a proactive ideology to create a long-lasting social transformation.
Similarly, the writer integrated diction to communicate the significance of self-reflection and awareness when embarking on a mission to empower themselves. From the onset, the singer suggested that he had no reason to worry about the social beliefs because she believed in her abilities to excel (Platten, 2015). Primarily, the diction, in this case, aimed at empowering people particularly the youth the steer their development agenda. The viewpoint contradicts the common perception that young people lack the capability to lead or create a beneficial change in the country. Therefore, she used her case and skills to explain that everyone can perform extraordinarily in art and academics. Even though it is not mentioned, the diction helps the audience to reflect, identify and progress their talent to have an improved life.
Overall, Platten used diction to portray frustrations and inspire generations to seek a sustainable change process. In this process, she used powerful words like a fight, ocean, and explosion to indicate the broadness of her capability. She also suggested that the personal empowerment is an individual initiative that commences with self-awareness and the desire to create change.
