Location tracking through Snapchat
Location tracking through Snapchat is used with the assistance of Snap map. Snap map assists Snapchat users in the sharing of their current location which then appears to the friends on a map and keeps updating as soon as one opens the application. Similar to Google Maps, Snap map uses a phone’s GPS sensor to make sure that it displays the user’s proximal location. Snap map only requires friends and users of the mobile application (VIDEO). However, as a security measure, the app has been incorporated with a turn-off feature, unlike Google maps, from where members can turn off location sharing or make it visible to only a few friends.
The new feature also gives live performances operating on throughout the realm such as Wimbledon or performances along with users’ location. The application also does not track its users in real time since it does not work in the background. The application is safe to be used by all ages. However, some concerns have been raised even to the police, education institutions, and child safety campaigners who advocate for the prevention of usage of the application by young users since they may unwittingly show their location to their friends (Social Links). In the UK, the Safer Internet Center communicated that there is an importance in being careful while sharing one’s location. The council believes that many people tend to spy on where people live, go to school and spend their time.
One of the spokesmen for SnapChat uttered that the safety of the community is important and was upheld as soon as they were planning on launching the new feature and that they always wanted to make it certain that all Snapchatters, parents, and teachers have the best knowledge of how the application is used (Telegraph reporters).

The location-sharing feature is off at first and is entirely voluntary for Snapchat users hence, making the application safe (Warning to Parents as Snapchat Now Shares Your Childs Exact Location).
