Analysis of “Much Ado about Nothing Play by” Shakespeare
Name
Institution
ACT 1
We learn that both are having “merry war” when Benedick is introduced to Beatrice. They keep trying to get into each other head. This kind of wits invoked past encounters. Beatrice claims to know Benedick of the “old,” and believes that he is just a “crow” and “very dull fool.” On the other hand, Benedick criticizes Beatrice to the level of using jades trick in his criticism. The fact that both already had a well-formed opinion about each other serves as an indication that the two had a previous encounter and also the fact that they referred to “old” versions of each other. From their conversation, there is enough tension that can only occur between people who have had a previous encounter. Their past encounter helped the two to know each other better. When both Benedick and Beatrice are tricked to fall in love, Beatrice knew that Benedick was clever and that made it easier for her to accept love proposal.
ACT 2
Balthasar is a musician and a servant who Shakespeare modeled like other male characters in his play, looking for love prospect. He flirts with Margret in masque and later plays a role in tricking Benedick and Beatrice to fall in love. He flirts with Margaret when Don Pedro is with Hero and Benedick is dancing with Beatrice. Both Antonio and Ursula appear in the play having a dance during the masked ball. Ursula claims to recognize Antonio despite him dancing in a mask. In the end, Antonio and Balthasar take part in convincing Benedick to fall in love with Margret.

ACT 3
Shakespeare uses constable Dogberry and the watch to bring comical relief in the play. They are both responsible for keeping people safe, and yet they carry out their duties so poorly that it brings a sense of humor to the audience. They enter in the play when there is high tension among characters, and their sense of humor easing the tension. It is ironic for both Dogberry and the watch to miss critical details like using the word “plaintiff’ instead of “defendant.”
