My Zombie Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead
The human mind seems to be held to ransom by the subconscious part of the brain. Humans fear what they cannot comprehend but their efforts to understand the most feared creatures such as zombies is what instills fear. Chuck Klosterman’s article relates the daily life of a typical human being to the life cycle of zombies. The creatures are compared to the natural obstacles that humans have to face and deal with each day of their life. Majority of these challenges are inevitable, and humans have to devise a technique of handling them because they are bound to spring the next day. This relates well to the fact that modern humans need the media and the internet which have become an inevitable necessity because the latter “reminds of us this every day (Klosterman 1).” Although humans cannot see their future, they are sure that the next day in their life will have a couple of hurdles and challenges to deal with.
Life is cyclical, and all that humans need is to equip themselves with the necessary expertise to handle what might ensue tomorrow. During her 2014 Ted Talk, Ed Young questions whether parasites are in a position to change our manner of thinking. Ed Young concludes that maybe parasites are meant to “subvert our way of thinking (Yong 1).” Humans should not stay blinded and fixated on one thing without considering what the future has in store for them. The parasites, in this case, are similar to Klosterman’s zombies.

The recent advancements in media and the proliferation of the internet have recreated the earlier versions of zombies and parasites. This means that challenges in the modern world are unending and a change of time will be met with new challenges. Majority of the problems we have nowadays are recursive and repetitive. The future depends on the decisions we make today, and this comes a long way in appreciating the efforts of eliminating everyday zombies and parasites to create space for tomorrow woes.
