Geopolitical Community
A geopolitical community refers to a setting which is defined by jurisdictional and geographical borders such as towns, municipalities and so forth. The borders or boundaries can either be human made or occur as a result of nature (Maurer & Smith, 2013). The geopolitical community that I live in is Miami. The region’s geopolitical nature is associated with a third of its being a property of the Everglades National Park. The park is a natural wetland and a home to various swamp species including alligators. Miami is surrounded by the West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale in the northern side, the Florida Keys in the southern side, Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay in the eastern side, and the Everglades National Park in the western side. Its geopolitical nature is also affiliated with the region serving as a gateway to the Caribbean region and South America.
The phenomenological community is my religious affiliation. I consider it as a phenomenological community as the members share similar beliefs and values. Also, the religion is popular globally and hence not limited by landmarks and geographical boundaries.
Most geopolitical communities, especially in the U.S., are culturally diverse. Therefore, one of the benefits that community health nurses may experience when serving in the diverse communities is learning about the different cultures for them to comprehend the needs of the respective populations.

Nonetheless, communication might be a problem due to the language barriers. For similar communities, a nurse might assume that a similar community might have similar needs which may not be the case. The benefit is that a nurse might use what might have worked earlier for a community to meet its current needs. A challenge that may face a nurse when dealing with the same community is public health literacy. A solution to the problem is engaging the community using seminars and forums for them to be familiar with the public health issues affecting them.
A global medical issue present in Miami is HIV/AIDS whereby the nurses play a significant role in educating the public about the infection and how to manage it when affected. The main ethnic sub-communities in my community include Non-Hispanic Whites, Hispanic Whites, Hispanic, Non-Hispanic African Americans, Hispanic African Americans, and Asians. A consideration that might be addressed includes the needs of each community particularly the socio-economic issues such as income and literacy that may limit respective groups from accessing proper medical services.
