Complexities of Succession Planning
Student’s Name
Institution Affiliation
Memorandum
To: The Board of Directors
From: President of the Board
Date: October 2018
Subject: Course of Action Following the Retirement of the Executive Director
At the subsequent board meeting, several significant matters should be subject to deliberations, particularly following the retirement of the executive director. This memorandum focuses on the best course of action based on the subject developments affecting the board. The recommended course of action entails a review of the boards’ roles as the executive leadership and governance of the non-profit. Based on my review of the current processes and procedures, the succession planning will result in some complexities with most of them attributed to the consistency and efficiency in leadership and governance as the primary roles of the board. Assertively, the proposed course of action explicates the core functions of the governing board and how they will be advantageous when addressing the different complexities.
First, as the foundation for leadership by the board, we should begin by redefining the organization’s strategic plan and bearing, which includes establishing the future (Renz, 2010). As a result, it will assist in the instilling and maintenance of a strategic perspective and augment the board’s focus on the work of the organization. More so, with well-defined long-term goals and expected results every member of the board will have a clearer understanding of what is expected of them as the executive leadership of the organization.

Wait! nonprofit paper is just an example!

Second, as a necessity for the organization’s strategic plan and bearing, there is a need to establish proactive policy and guide organizational action. The governance of the board requires concrete policies that act as guidance for the executive decision-making and action. The review of the current procedures and practices depicted inconsistencies in the direction and implementation of organizational programs and operations (Renz & Herman, 2016). Consequently, the establishment of concrete policies will be contributory to addressing this problem while simultaneously assisting in the guidance of resource allocation.
