Leadership is the relationship that exists between the people who take charge and those who choose to follow the leader, who coordinates and directs the activities of a group of individuals towards the realization of a common goal (Sfantou, et at, 2017). Management, on the other hand, is the act of controlling the actions of people in an organization or a business setting to fulfill a certain objective.
The process of leadership involves the creation of a vision to be realized in an organization, alignment or people with the vision by use of effective communication, and the motivation of people to take action through the fulfillment of basic need and empowerment. The process of leadership creates an air or change and uncertainty in an organization. In contrast to this, management takes the steps of planning and budgeting, staffing and organizing, and problem-solving and controlling. The processes of management create an air or certainty and stability in an organization. The process of management involves the implementation of direction and vision that is provided by leaders by handling the day to day problems or the company like staffing and coordinating the organization. This puts leaders at a higher hierarchy than managers (Lunenburg, 2011).
Authors of the various article on leadership and management speak with a great certainty about the most needed behaviors needed in organizations and business settings, the most important being the merge of both leadership and management in running organizations.

Organizations require both strong management and strong leadership to for optimal performance. In the modern workplace which is dynamic, leaders are needed to persuade the members of the organization and to challenge the status quo. Managers are also needed to develop and maintain a workplace that is functioning smoothly.
One recommendation that can be used in the clinical setting is the incorporation of enough leadership into nursing management. This is because nurses have often been led inadequately and over-managed at the same time yet the face a lot of unprecedented opportunities and challenges (Doody & Doody, 2012). In these modern days, evidence-based health care is recognized as a tool for achieving effective and high-quality health care. Both leadership and management of healthcare personnel are crucial for strengthening the integration and quality of care (Sfantou, et at, 2017). This kind of leadership which is adaptive is known as “transformational leadership,” under which environments that facilitate sharing of responsibilities is developed hence influencing the creation of new ways of knowing.
Transformational leadership usually motivate followers by creating an appeal to moral values, higher ideas, and where the leader possesses a deep set of ideas and internal values. This causes the followers to act in accordance to the set bar of values to sustain the greater good instead of their interests and to create a conducive environment where collective responsibility is shared (Doody & Doody, 2012). Transformational leadership can be implemented in nursing through its four component which are an individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, and idealized influence. Idealized influence is responsible for building trust, respects, admiration, and confidence. For this to occur, nurse leaders should be good role models for the staff to emulate them. Inspirational motivation involves motivating staff members to achieve the organization’s goals while also fulfilling their aims. Intellectual stimulation encourages staff members to be innovative, to challenge the beliefs of the leader and other staff members. Individualized consideration involves leaders supporting and encouraging individuals to rise to greater heights of achievement, with the leader acting in advisory capacities (Doody & Doody, 2012).
