A lot of data is collected every day, for example, the hours a person sleeps at night. Statistics offers a platform to make sense of and interpret this data. Therefore, according to Cherry, in psychology, “statistics are used to organize, describe and make inferences based on this data” (Cherry, 2018). Based on the knowledge I acquired from my statistics class, I can use statistical methods such as descriptive, inferential and correlational methods to find psychology research study.
Psychological science is pinned to previous research. Therefore, psychology topics do require to incorporate information from well-researched sources. These sources fall into two categories, primary and secondary sources. A primary source is a study written by the experimenter(s) and contains an abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, references and tables. On the other hand, PsychInfo, PsychArticles, and Google Scholar are areas where secondary sources such as literature reviews are retrieved. Getting quality information requires reading over a literature review to check if it relates to the psychology topic.
Psychologists always focus their study on aspects such as human behaviors and emotions. The data from these factors are considered to lack methodological rigor — however, scientific methods and reasoning help to standardize the approach to understand the different types of information. Scientific articles are written in American Psychological Association writing style and structured around the scientific methods.

After the research, the results are evaluated to check if they support the research hypothesis. This evaluation is essential for scientists to develop a central hypothesis to be explored in the future. Finally, the results are shared with other researchers to set an overall knowledge and create essential research avenues for future exploration.
