Research on a Quartz Countertop
The composition of quartz is 95% a natural ground quartz with the addition of polymer resins to cater for the remaining 5%. Because of its structure, the material is highly available and sustainable for local production. The artificial nature of the quartz countertop is an indication that they are not available in rare colors and composition (Reed n.p). Further, the initial investment in the material results in a structure that is easy to maintain due to the hardness of the material. However, the material is heat sensitive.
Question 1
Availability and cost impact the sustainability of the material as well as the installation process. The artificial production of the material means that designers can obtain the material locally. While the initial production costs were relatively high, the increase in demand led to the development of cost-effective production processes with considerable low pricing with the range of $1500 to $5500 for installation (Reed n.p). Presently, interior designers can obtain the material at affordable costs depending on the color and thickness of the material.
Question 2
A non-sustainable product that pits against the quartz countertop in many ways is the granite countertop. The first contrast is that while quart’s material is artificial, the composition of granite is 100 % natural stone, which creates the first con of availability with the need to import the material if the homeowner desires rare colors and structure.

The cost of importing the material is high considering the weight, thus the unsustainability of granite (Reed n.p). Thus, the cost range depending on the manufacturer is $2000 to $4000 for installation. The nature of the material includes additional installation charges to analyze the condition of the structure and its capacity to blend with the material.
