Quotes Comparison
American playwright Tennessee Williams once wrote that” We are all of us sentenced to solitary confinement inside our own skins, for life” (1). In his context, solitary confinement means a cage or rather a prison of loneliness. The American playwright meant that human beings are prisoners to the state of loneliness in their lives. Being lonely is a state of mind that can eat away someone despite the fact that they have their friends and families on their side. It is a state that anyone can easily experience in their lives as it is also inevitable. However, sometimes the state of being lonely can be as a result of an event. Therefore, in such circumstances, one sentences him or herself to the state of solitary confinement.
Williams’ quote is closely connected his line to the monsters quoting of Paradise Lost that, “Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay mold me, man? Did I solicit you from darkness to promote me?”(Williams 1). The question was presented by Adam to God in his state of uncertainty as to why God created him. Adam is compared to the monster since after reading Paradise Lost, the monster relates Adams story to its own life. Therefore, the quote is a clear foreshadowing of the way the monster is in an inner conflict with itself.
The two quotes are related since, at the time the monster quoted the Paradise Lost, one can see that it was in a state of loneliness. Similarly, Adam is lonely and he questions the reason God created him without any tie to any other existing creature.

Wait! quotes comparison paper is just an example!

The two quotes, the monsters quoting and Tennessee Williams’ are related in that they reflect a state of loneliness in a person. Just as Tennessee states that human beings can be slaves to loneliness in their lives I the first quote, his line in the monster’s quoting is an example of a personal reaction of a person who is lonely and trapped in their body.
Personal experience of being trapped in my body
I must agree that there are some instances in my life that I feel trapped in my body as nobody seems to understand me, which leads me to a state of feeling alone. I am therefore left to question the reason I was born. An epitome of such a lifetime experience was when I terribly failed my final grade ten exams. Having been studying really hard and my previous end of term exams being above average, I was certain that I would pass my final exams. My parents and siblings were also looking up to me since I am the first born and they had spent a fortune to take me to one of the best schools in our area. In an effort not to disappoint them, I had resolved to study extra hard and pass my exams. However, the opposite happened. When the results were out, I appeared in the list of the last ten students in our class.
It was one of the devastating experiences in my life as I could not tell why I had failed. My parents never seemed to understand my failure and they were furious to an extent of thinking that I must have been cheating in my previous exams. My siblings were also mocking me on how thick I was in academics. It was an unforgettable moment that I really felt trapped in my body and wished that I was never born in the first place. However, I managed to come out of the situation through the help of my teacher. I confided to her about my feeling and she helped me out. She assured my parents that I failed because the school had set the exam based on topics we had not yet covered in class. It was also clear that the general performance of our class was extremely poor.
