Article 1: Schools seek to channel parent involvement by Keller, B. (2008).
I decided to use this article because the Naperville school district is close to where I live. My aim of using this article is because I wanted to know the ideas and or demands of parents who are from different socio-economic status, how things are run with parents from different income brackets, and gaining more insight on how schools in this community gain the parents attention. The article explains how the high-income parents have compromised the teacher’s job and the learning process because of their incessant demands. (Keller, 2008).
The article states the expectations of the school and parents, discussing how ideas were adopted from the framework of Joyce L. Epstein, the head of Center on School, Family, and Community Partnerships at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. These ideas offered the parents a very flexible schedule to be involved in their child’s education through holding school events on weekends to ensure the involvement of many successful parents that work over 90 hours weekly. Something that is interesting and addressed in this article is the mental contracts that parents hold schools responsible for acts that they should have handled at home. They expect by paying for tuition fee the school is accountable for their child’s behavior.
The article offers ideas on how to get parents involved and the ways to correspond with every parent in the school using different types of communication tools such as emails, school web pages, and or educational communication apps.

Wait! rewrite paper is just an example!

In my classroom, I would prefer to use emails, as a means of communication because it’s the most effective. Parents can access emails more easily and without a strain.
Article 2: Researchers explore teens, parents, schools. By Viadero, D. (2009)
I loved this article because it discusses the importance of meeting the student’s needs as well as parent involvement. The article enlightens us on the activities that may or may not help in our children academically when it comes to parent involvement. Nancy Hill Harvard, a researcher in education, found out that parent’s participation in student’s achievement is essential, but the parents should consider the kind of activity they involve in. The research in the article is geared toward middle school and secondary school students. Parents that participate in their child’s schooling often end up joining college and have minor behavioral problems. When children are transitioning from grammar school to middle school to high school then college, they need the support of their parents to make it, and if a parent is involved in their child’s life, then it will be reflected by the results afterward. (Viadero, 2009).
The research has helped me get ways to approach my parents and involve them in my classroom activities, and how they can provide positive guidance more comfortably and willingly, to improve my results academically.
