Sarah Hale and the Ladies Magazine
Sarah Hales was opposed to the idea of having two different spheres. Men dominated the public and political sphere while women, on the other hand, were left at home. As an editor by the Ladies Magazine in the year 1828, Hales promoted the idea of educating women because she believed that the woman is the pillar of every household. However, she was opposed to the influence that men had on women. As the literary editor of the Godey’s Lady’s Book, Sarah Hales aimed at improving the moral and intellectual ability of women, Hales argued that women were not given equal opportunities as their male counterparts.
When Sarah Hale used the term, “women sphere” she meant women’s private space. Ladies Magazine had a mission of educating women what their roles in a family and the society are (Woloch 103). However, women were not limited in their spheres because men were busy trying to establish dominance in the public and political sphere. Ladies Magazine claimed the duties of women were domestic chores, interpersonal and private. Sarah decided to use the magazine as an avenue to communicate with responsible middle-class wives. The magazine would be a wake-up call in the society and educate women on what their duties are. Sarah would spearhead this and be their moral and spiritual leader.
The first issue on January 1828 was an appeal to men not to feel threatened as the women were empowered. Sarah urged the men to support their wives, mothers, and sisters (Woloch 104).

Wait! Sarah Hale and the Ladies Magazine Revised paper is just an example!

The women sphere reflected on the values and the women character traits. Sarah wrote stories and poems to her readers as most related to, about what she was going through. Ladies Magazine became the sole source of women education. In her monthly column, she encouraged girls’ academics and celebrated women education and their achievements.
Sarah Hales is hailed as one of the most prolific female writers of all times. Sarah achieved a lot in her years as she encouraged women in every way she could. In the current situation, women have been empowered to the point that some of them were confident enough to vie for political and managerial posts.
