I prefer the Cognitive Behavioural Theory which posits that the thinking process is influenced by emotional and behavioral responses. The aim of the counselling process in this theory is to modify aspects such as emotions and behaviour to determine whether this has positive influences on the client. Moreover, the theory assumes that if the therapist comprehends the client’s thinking process, they can explain negative feelings better (Wills, 2012). The theory is important to counselling as it provides reasons on the need to understand the client’s problems and change the way they think about the same.
Additionally, the theory that I kind of understand is the Adlerian Theory which posits that people try to achieve in the world and may develop mistaken beliefs of that give them a false sense of superiority. The goal of therapy in this theory is to help patients gain insight into their beliefs and assist them in overcoming the same. Individuals are assisted in overcoming negative feelings and behaviors through the application of this theory (Sharf, 2015). In applying this theory, the therapist considers the individual’s connectedness and strive for success as a contributor to mental health.
One theory that I am yet to comprehend fully is the Integrative Theory which brings together different approaches to therapy. The theory posits that a single approach to therapy cannot assist a client hence the need for the combination. When a therapist meets a client, they assess their needs and determine the different therapeutic tools that are ideal for the situation.

For example, a therapist may establish that the tools of behaviour therapy are not enough for the situation the client is facing; he or she then combines with other therapies to ensure better outcomes for the client.
