Summary of “The ‘Spoils’ of the Park”
The article “The ‘Spoils’ of the Park” requires attentive discussions on the subject matters. According to the article by Rosenzweig and Blackmar, the Board of Commissioners discussed the final status of the Central Park and sealed their meeting, which makes the board members feel concerned and uneasy about the future. Both authors mentioned that the board officials did support a newfangled urban treaty called the Tweed Charter that would affectedly change the city’s compliant empathy for the state. According to the authors, the Tweed charter shifted control of the Central Park, which would need park commissioners to spearhead the management of Central Park in the urban regions.
The event in 1870 recalled for the crucial decisions on good governance. According to Rosenzweig and Blackmar, “the relationship between voters and public officials seemed not an expression of a popular will but a fundamentally corrupt exchange” (213). Based on Rosenzweig and Blackmar, the creation of such idea was confirmed by the Anti-Tammany group “that indicated the 1870 dispute as for the starting point of the demolition of the park” (208). If changes were made to the Central Park, something transformed to the successfully embodied the ideals and principles of the leading and prominent people in New York. Rosenzweig and Blackmar would note that, sometime in the future, those who changed the landscape of the Central Park would face the challenge and further questions why they carefully dispirited and overthrew the well-accomplished toil in the metropolis only “by outlining a new political agenda for city planning” (210).

The promise of urban planning was just a life reminding the trademark of dishonesty and fraud. The effect of Tweed’s brief government laid down the piece of evidence about the political influence existed in time (Rosenzweig and Blackmar 215). Hence, the 1870 episode evoked for the main agenda for an effective city governance.
Indeed, the sudden episode of Central Park created a spoil within the political framework. Such spoil of the Central Park manufactured loss of interest and abandonment due to political disgust. A change in political system and government posed a factor of the Central Park’s decay. The brief government of Tweed, which concluded in 1871, spoiled the part itself. The ambitious agenda for urban planning did spur at the moment due to political interest – of course, acts of corruption. The issue corruption of “The ‘Spoils’ of the Park” was clear as city politicians broke the promise of urban design, disheveled the park in short period, and neglected the park service due to the influence of personal and political inducement.
