Functions of Cell Division
Eukaryotic cell division helps in the reproduction of the entire unicellular organism. Its other function is the growth and repair of tissues in multicellular organisms (Buyel 7). What happens during Cytokinesis?
During cytokinesis, a ring of protein-membrane forms around the cell equator just beneath the plasma membrane. This ring shrinks pinching the plasma membrane inward consequently forming a cleavage furrow.

The shrinking continues until two separate cells are formed, each bound in its own plasma membrane (Buyel 13).
Cytokinesis in plant and animal cells
According to Buyel (13), in an animal cell, the separation of the cells is as a result of the shrinking of the protein membrane whereas, in a plant cell, it is as a result of the formation of a cell plate at the phragmoplast which develops a cell wall which separates the two nuclei.
Results of uncontrollable cell growth
Effects of uncontrolled cell growth are more pronounced in animals compared to plants as this is the main cause of cancer.
