Obituary for the late Atticus Finch
Atticus Finch, aged 75, died peacefully on Thursday, 11 October 1965 at the Monroeville country hospital. He was born to Late Leonard Finch and Marylyn Finch on February 7, 1890, in Maycomb, Alabama. In his heydays, he was a witty student and earned his Law degree at the University of Alabama when he was only 17 years old. It was such a great achievement at the moment. Mr. Finch fondly known as Attorney Finch married in 1923 and two married one year later. In 1924, they were blessed with their first child, Jeremy Atticus Finch (Jem) and later on in 1927; they had couple had their second and last child, Jean Louise Finch (Scout). Sadly, Mrs. Marylyn Finch died one year later from heart complications leaving the husband to take care of their two children. Ever a loving father, Attorney Finch resolved to bring up his son and daughter single-handedly and thus, never remarried. He is particularly acclaimed for his epic moral standards and was Maycomb representation of sophistication and wisdom. He spent most of his time representing the Maycomb residents in court cases. He was also known for his courage seen in some of his cases where he defended African Americans in court cases with white folks. He particularly became famous among the white and earned respect among the blacks. Through his lifetime, Finch has stood for what his right irrespective of the sacrifices he has to make. As a boy, he was nicknamed one-shot Finch due to his mastery in shooting birds.

However, he gave up the practice when he realized that he had undue advantage over the birds. He is survived by his children: Jem and Scout; Brother Jack Finch and Sister Alexandra Finch. Family and friends are invited for his requiem mass at the Monroeville Catholic Church on Tuesday, 16 October 1965 and after that a funeral service at the Monroeville Cemetery.
Obituary of the late Tom Robinson
Tom Robinson, aged 29 died in the Maycomb Alabama Jailhouse on December 19, 1935. He was born on September 5, 1906, to the late Nathaniel Johnson and Elaine Johnson. He was the Husband to Helen Johnson. Tom’s family was young, and he was in the process of building up his future with his young wife in anticipation for their children. Tom was a hardworking man who set a good example for others. He was loved by both the Maycomb Negro community as well as Link Deas, his white employer. Tom was a righteous young man and was of service to his community and the church. From his teenage years up to the time of his demise, he served in the church as both an usher and a choir member. Despite the challenges in his life, Tom gave it his best. The people take pride in his kindness and the helping spirit that he possessed. Everyone who had a problem in the black neighborhood would think of Tom who had no problem parting with his hard earned resources to imparting great wisdom. Ultimately, his kindness cost him his life. Tom was wrongly accused and arrested. Despite his innocent plea in the court, he was found guilty of a crime he did not commit. Following the Jury’s conviction to have him hanged, he was taken to the Alabama County’s jailhouse where he died under mysterious circumstances. The entire black community mourns the death of this noble man. While he has left in person, he will be remembered in thoughts and a special place reserved in our hearts for him. He is survived by his wife, Helen Johnson. Friends are meeting at the First Purchase church compound to make arrangements on how to lay Tom to rest.
Obituary for the late Jean Louise Flinch
Jean Louise Finch (Scout), aged 80 died at her palatial home in Monroeville, Alabama on Monday, May 16, 2007, in her sleep. She was a loving mother and grandmother until her sudden demise. Scout was born on February 3, 1927, to the late Atticus Finch and Marylyn Finch in Maycomb, Alabama. Her father, a lawyer, taught her how to read and write early on in her life before she went to school. She, therefore, became interested in the things around her and used them as a learning experience since then. Scout was a great performer in her studies even though she emphasized the importance of informal learning. She was a charm to everyone around her and has always alluded a sense of confidence to all those that depended on her. She married when she was 30 years, with the love of her life, Reynolds Prince Johnson, with whom she had one son with. Scout has been a societal pillar and has emphasized varying conventions such as informal learning in the town of Maycomb. After high school, she went on to study literature at the University of Alabama and subsequently became a novelist. Through her writing, she managed to articulate important social issues including racism, segregation, gender roles amongst others. Scout is the author of the celebrated and Pulitzer Award-winning novel titled ‘Arthur’s Backyard.’ In the book, she discussed her childhood adventures with her brother in their neighbor’s compound. Scout is survived by her son Reynolds Prince Johnson; Grandchildren James Milner Johnson, Ashton Johnson, and Devine Marylyn Johnson. Friends and family will congregate at the Monroeville Catholic Cathedral to celebrate her well-lived life on Friday, 20 May 2007 at 9:00 am and later on progress to the Alabama cemetery for her Burial service.
